We should do a ranking the years of the decade thread at some point.

When we do, I'll definitely be listing 2018 near the top. I feel like it was the year the rate and volume of rap releases just exploded but at the same time gave us so much new amazing music - from established and new artists alike. Even with the insane amount of new s--- coming out today (and half of these havent even sunk in yet fully), I still find myself constantly returning to my Best of 2018 playlist.

Not only that but so much happened. Hip Hop became the number 1 genre in the US. GOOD Music surgical Summer. Drake/Pusha beef. We lost Mac. --- got killed, 6ix9ine blew the f--- up then had his career ended in the space of 12 months. Cardi B takeover. Travis' ascension. Cudi's return. MAGA Ye. Wayne finally dropped C5. Everyone had CAPITALIZED album titles. Insane year.

    JPEGMAFIA - VETERAN
Kendrick Lamar & TDE - Black Panther: The Album
    Nipsey Hussle - Victory Lap
    6ix9ine - DAY69 / DUMMY BOY
    XXXTENTACION - ?
    Saba - CARE FOR ME
Cardi B - Invasion of Privacy
    Playboi Carti - Die Lit
    Pusha T - DAYTONA
Kanye West & Kid Cudi - Kids See Ghosts
    Blueface - Famous Cryp
    Denzel Curry - TA13OO
    Travis Scott - ASTROWORLD
    Mac Miller - Swimming
Lil Wayne - Tha Carter V
Lil Baby & Gunna - Drip Harder
Metro Boomin - NOT ALL HEROES WEAR CAPES
Benny the Butcher - Tana Talk 3
Earl Sweatshirt - Some Rap Songs
    21 Savage - I Am > I Was

way too many songs to list em, these are a few gems I keep returning to

    what did i miss?

Surely didn’t s--- and was well received by the General public. Not saying it’s a masterpiece but it was a solid album from Cole. And he seems to be hitting a stronger stride with his quality features and rapping on ROTD3. He’ll never appeal to a certain demographic. I’m talking folks who’d rather listen to Blueface, 03 Greedo, JPEGMafia and that’s okay. Cole ain’t their cup of tea. He’s more traditional hip hop and not as stylistic

I know it’s not cool or popular on this forum outside of his thread but Cole’s amazing feature run and these:

Cole's piqued my interest for the first time since the early 2010s cuz of his features and ROTDIII, I think him expanding his palate in terms of collaborators has both rejuvenated him and helped catch the interest of people who weren't necessarily checking for him. I really did not like KOD though.

I'm excited to see what he does next—though honestly I wish he'd stop with the no features thing cuz I think having some other artists to play off of and voices to switch up the POV would help add some flavor to his records. I'm not saying he needs to load it up with other rappers, but 2-3 guest verses would go a long way imo.

nah im just kidding, I've actually started to appreciate Cole a lot more in the past 2 years or so. Could never understand what the hype was all about until I went back to listen to The Warm Up and FNL, then listened to his albums again with a whole new perspective. Then we he started on that feature run my interest was renewed. Impressed by the variety of artists he's been working with and his willingness to switch it up. KOD was ok imo, a few great highlights but I don't think the concept came together as well as it could have. I'mn no Cole expert but I way preferred FHD and 4YEO. He was f---ing outstanding on ROTD3 though and I'm definitley looking forward to seeing what he does next.
