Plenty of artists have made 2 great albums in a row, plenty of artists have made 2 back to back classics.

But to follow up one of the most influential and important hip hop albums of all time with yet another genre-defining, game-changing masterpiece puts Dre in an elite not many others can claim. n----s wanna be the King but the Ace is back.

one of the first albums I ever owned. listening to this felt like opening a portal to another dimension. its a towering landmark in hip hop history, marked the beginning of the Aftermath dominance that would define the decade that followed and 20 years later and still sounds like it comes from the future. No one's been able to replicate it, not even Dre himself.

I honestly wish I was old enough at that time, I still prefer that over todays trap sound (to an extent)

It can't be overstated how perfect and timeless the production on this is. Props to Mel Man who never gets enough credit.

    Well put!!

Would like to add that his 3rd album he managed to combine his vintage sound w more modern music.. having both veterans and new artist on it, and STILL make it great. 3/3!

    Truly a legend.

Maybe not all of them but imo for sure better than 100 times the same sound on every album song

Some amazing beats. But thats kinda off topic here, 2001 had all classic beats!

Well, guess we gotta thank Iovine for Still Dre. Plus, Dre is right about the classics. He really does deliver. The Chronic, 2001, Compton... All of them were classics to me. Sure 2001 was unreachable but Compton had like the best modern day beats ever.

Yea I remember those rumors about an up in smoke tour 2. I don’t really go to concerts these days but that was one show I was hoping to attend. Sucks it never came to fruition.

Funny enough, I’ve never seen the up in smoke dvd. I’ve obviously seen a few clips here and there but I’ve never sat down to watch the whole thing. I probably should check it out someday and see if i remember any new stuff. Apparently I was at the show they filmed for the dvd. I’m sure they said they same s--- to every crowd though just to get them hype. They kept yelling s--- like “Boston we’re filming you right now! Make some motherfucking noise for the cameras!” And s--- like that. People ate that s--- up though and went nuts. I’ll admit, I did too lmao.

Sadly, I have no pics or merch from the show. Back then, people weren’t carrying around cameras like that. The digital camera didn’t become popular until like the mid 2000s when all of a sudden they were everywhere and everyone had one. Plus I had no money for merch, I was a broke teenager. After we bought our tickets, we pooled together any leftover money to buy gas, parking, and as much weed as possible. I do wish I had some pics from that night though. That’s my only regret.

2001 came out when I started my junior year of high school smh. I remember me and my friends smoking blunts to this album nearly every day for months on end. This album has so many timeless songs.

One of my fondest memories from this time though was going to The Up in Smoke Tour the following summer and seeing some of the 2001 songs performed live. Plus seeing all the classics performed by Dre, Snoop, Ice Cube, Xzibit, Em, the D.O.C., Nate Dogg, etc., the s--- was like a hip hop music festival the way they brought together so many amazing acts on stage at the same time. I’ve been to dozens of concerts and this is probably the best live show I’ve ever seen. The production value was phenomenal (ice cube came down from the rafters inside a f---ing ice cube lmao), the sound quality was impeccable, and all the performers put on a fantastic show.

Can’t believe its been 20 years since 2001 came out. What the f---.

Honestly, GOAT album. The album aged so well over the years, I still listen to majority of the songs.

Why is this post all of me, from watching the DVD recently, to organising a planned trip with a squad to see Up in Smoke Tour 2 from UK to USA lmao

Lifetime ambition is to go back in time & be in that crowd, somehow I don't think that's feasibly achievable. Now I'm sad.

I envy you more than anything. I've been to lore concerts than I can remember and seen and hung out with some great artists and have grown up on hip-hop but the ONE thing I regret is never getting an opportunity to go to the Up in Smoke Tour. I even re-watched the DVD about 6 months ago. So amazing!

I remember there were heavy rumours of an Up in Smoke Tour 2 a few years after and I was going to fly to wherever I could in America for a weekend just to be able to go to this. No exaggeration, my and my mates had it all organised. Just needed venues and dates! That was a longway to go from the UK but I would've done it in a heartbeat.

You're a lucky, lucky man. I hope you've got photos/merch etc to help you ever such a great time!

Most Dr. Dre beats from 1999-2001 were leftovers meant for this album at one point, I don't see a single one fitting this album honestly besides Remember Me's and Fast Lane (Remix). I love that Fast Lame beat but I really don't like Bilal's voice....
