93-99 was epic. You had the Golden Era end during that time but the late 90’s had a ton of heat too. Early 2000’s were cool too but a lot of the bs was beginning to seep through. It was a great time for Indie Hip Hop tho. 2010-2014 is my most recent favorite era. Lots of great new talent came up in that era and you still had a few vets putting out good projects.Ricky, Fire Squad, Worm and 6 others like this. -

great thread @Tonshor . And agreed, that 06 - 09 era was amazing. Kanye, Tip, Game, Jeezy were all killing it. And the peak Wayne era of course. Strange, I strongly disliked Ross from this era, he got way better around 2010-13/14 imo.
For me, nostalgia-wise, 99-04/05 was around the time I first got into hip hop - Nas, Jay, Em, DMX, 50, Kanye etc.
But currently I'd say the 14-16 era with the peak of Thug, Future, etc. Just before everything went insane with Soundcloud. DS2, MKL, Monster, Tha Tour, B6, IDLSIDGO, TPAB, Blonde. Countless classics.Jay Zeus, Ricky, Fire Squad and 4 others like this. -

As the title indicates, what were your favourite years in terms of hiphop music?
I'm not talking about an era (For example: The 80s if you weren't around). I'm refering to a particular period of time, more like a couple of years, in which a bunch of dope albums dropped and certain artists emerged and you found yourself enjoying hiphop the most.
For me it would have to be somewhere between 2006-2009.
During that time period, you had
T.I.
Lil Wayne
Rick Ross
Young Jeezy
Kanye West
The Game
Jay-Z
Akon
Chamllionaire
...
Almost all of them at their peak. Lil Wayne was just killin it during those years with Carter 3, T.I. had Paper Trail and a bunch of hits as well, I could list a whole bunch of different albums but it would take too long. Even Snoop had the classic Blue Carpet Treatment during that period.
Probably forgetting a bunch of other artists, but you get the idea.
A lot of it probably has to do with the environment, experiences, where I was at during that time and what was hot so it might be biased as h---. There's really no right or wrong answer.Last edited: Dec 30, 2019Ricky, Fire Squad, DKC and 3 others like this. -

97' just because of the Shiny Suit Era with Puff & Ma$e...But I'm suddenly overwhelmed with nostalgia so lemme unload some of it:
(2000-06) for me the closest to my heart cause that's when I fell in love with rap, shoutout my uncle for putting me on. All of Rocafella, 50 & Em torching the charts, anything Kanye was involved in, those stupid Dj Drama & Clue mixtapes, Clipse, Lil Wayne's rapid ascension, Lupe Fiasco (yes I know, I know), Outkast's final moments...It's when you truly look back and realize the magnitude of what Rap had become around the globe, this is coming from someone that lives in Rap's Mecca, that gives this time period a certain aura.
(2006-2011) Uff what a time, thank you Wayne & Kanye for the memories and shoutout to anyone with a working internet that had Limewire on deck. Blog era, new generation of rappers flourishing as a result (Drizzy, Wiz, Kenny, Cole to name just a few). It was merely a preview of things to come.
(2012-2015) This was, for me at least, the last couple of years where I truly was attached to music as a whole. So much good f---ing music came out from everywhere and before streaming cluttered the s--- out of my listening experiences. Just take a quick look at how many classics came out in these few years out of any genre you pick, undoubtedly an era of prosperity.DKC, Sav Stanfield, Ordinary Joel and 2 others like this. -

Recency bias but I started diving into hip-hop more around '14-17
I would say that time period was my favourite because I was constantly seeking out new music and because it coincided with my heavier involvement with this forum.

Just remembered him and 50 Cent also had that beef around 2009 which was funny.
Agreed that early-mid 2000s were phenomenal years. I miss DMX's s---. So sad how the dude wasted so many years on drugs and getting locked up.
He recently hopped on this track which is really good. Him and Swizz Beatz always k--- it.

I really don't know. I'd probably say the early 2000's (like 2002-4ish) as that's when I started to really get into it and it felt like every artist was dope. I was ten in 2003 so I'd call it the time I really discovered a favourite genre.Fire Squad, Sav Stanfield and Wreckless like this.
