If you think Em is the only artist that gets scrutinized like that you’re simply not paying attention to or engaging with criticism of other artists. There’s plenty of places that have in depth convos about artists whether they flopped or not. Look at the discourse surrounding Kanye. When Wayne dropped Carter IV and IANAHB2 people shat on him endlessly.
Em gets scrutinized because:
1. He’s one of the biggest artists of all time (not even just in rap) so pretty much everyone who likes music listens to his new albums. More people have stuff to say about it so it’s going to seem like more people love it or hate it because more people are talking about it
2. He had one of the most surprising and drastic dips in quality of any rapper in history. Like he went from Lose Yourself to Big Weenie in a year lolZeugma, Chrollo, Sav Stanfield and 4 others like this. -

Quentin Tarantino said something recently I thought applied to the eminem hate thing. In regard to the hate he gets himself, he said something like "when you've been around for so long, certain tropes get sown into the fabric. If you're a fan of mine, you come to see my movies for those tropes. If you hate me, you're watching another list of things you cant stand". I think that vs. the fact he's so huge makes people who just arent on board rather confused about the situation...and f---ing ape minded morons react to confusion with anger...mostly on twitter nowadays. Hardcore criticism is just what happens when you’re the biggest artist in the world. The notion that he’s the only artist to be placed under a harsh microscope is also not true. There is no musical artist on the planet who’s eaten more s--- the last 5 years than Drake. He overcame it by making great music that appeals to the majority. But there are a lot of people to this day who say Scorpion was a bad album, which I find baffling. Literally, if Scorpion is a bad album, I don’t know what he has to do in your eyes to make a good one.
Lil Wayne was also mocked to unbelievable lengths. He was painted out to be this horrible rapper who “only rhymes the n-word with the n-word”.
The only thing I agree with you on is how targeted Ems fans seem to be. Like if you enjoy his music you’re just a brainless stan with no discernment for musical quality, which is unfair - but a lot of Eminem fans are also arrogant themselves and are the same ones bashing other rappers on comment sections and blogs. You just really have to look outside your bubble to see the wider view of the scenario. Otherwise it’ll appear as though Em is some punching bag while all other rappers get off scot free.Alpha, Spatula, Michael Myers and 1 other person like this. -

@Big Cuntry but be honest, aside from u, andy etc u agree that there are people on this forum that literally just mention his bad things and never ever say anything positive lol. That has nothing to do w criticism imo
Happens w other artists as well btwAlpha, GawDEDEDE, The Mandalorian and 1 other person like this. -

Have I been unfair to Em before? Of course lol everyone has kneejerk reactions to things sometimes. Em gets some unfair scrutiny because he's easy to make fun of but at the same time there are a lot of valid criticisms against him.
People still s--- on Kanye during MBDTF era and people still s--- on Wayne during the Carter III era. If you're an artist with that much visibility it's always gonna happen, even in your prime.Zeugma, GawDEDEDE, The Mandalorian and 1 other person like this. -

I actually find Kanye stans more annoying than Em stans now days. It's almost like a fair chunk gravitated to Kanye. But yeah, I loved Em's recent release. I barely give Recovery (4), MMLP2 (5), Revival (2) higher than a 5. This new project is a 8.5 for me. Don't really care what people say, it's music.
Look at his ratings on metacritic, the user score was 9.1 after 2,000 votes, after Fantano posted that on twitter saying its ridiculous it is now 3000 reviews and 8.5 lol.
He regularly is destroyed by pretentious people who put his music under a microscope, analyse everything (Yet ignore the same crap with their favorites). He is a victim of being too big, you like Eminem you have no music taste. Pretty much if you are an Em fan you are a loser lol (Going by albumoftheyear.org, ktt and some websites).
These people go out of their way to trash Em at any moment lol. Pretty sad, if I don't f--- with the music I just don't listen to it, I don't make it a life goal to trash it at every opportunity -

For example why should I go try to convince young thug fans in a thread how I find his albums trash when this artist doesn't appeal to me in general?
Edit: and then act like my taste is superior to them cause we dont agree? lmaoAlpha, The Mandalorian and Spatula like this. -

I guess it's part of human nature to s--- on other people's parades, especially if they make a lot of noise. I'm guilty of yelling "why can't you recognize this!? you must love this, this is brilliant!"
But in the midst of all this there is an actual person called Marshall Mathers who lives to impress people with his lyrics, and I feel like he gets an inhumane dose of attack. As big as he is, no one's skin is that inpenetrable. At the end of the day there's a guy who feels like s--- for doing what he loves. The Mandalorian, Bojack and Michael Myers like this. -

When any other artist puts out an album, people either love it or ignore it. There are no hate groups dedicated to bashing those artists or albums. For example, the game can and does release a s-----y album, people go meh and move on. Why do people stop and focus on Eminem even though they dislike him and his work?
Even wayne fans or previous fans simply say hes not been good in a while but thats it, no extra focus on him, no grudge, no hard feelings.
With eminem its different, people go to lenghts to listen to him while hating what theyre hearing and then mock and insult him and his fanbase.
Why is that? Why cant eminem just go under the radar if he sucks? Its like people are always trying to prove to everyone else "look, told you he sucks, everybody look!".
I dont know but I really doubt people went hard against nas for not putting out illmatics all the time, and he is always on top lists based on old success.
There is something specific about people who consistently bash on eminem. I've stopped enjoying south park a long time ago but i simply gave up, I dont need to prove my point why I stopped watching it. Its a really weird idea to be focused on something you hate.
And dont tell me its because people used to love eminem and he fell off. If he fell off in 2004, its time to move on.
But this is not to stop all criticism, I am just curious why the hate instead of disinterest and neutrality?
