The song's been around, I know I've heard it before and it's been sampled before (ie Pun).

25 years of The Infamous. 25 years since I first heard it on cassette. This isn't just a major Hip Hop album but if you're from Queens, this album is a gospel. Illmatic is another gospel, The War Report is another, Low End Theory is another. Mobb Deep always repped Queens heavy. Even the song QU-Hectic is about how people in NYC would look down on Queens but they kept their heads high. It's such a pivotal project for this borough, it instilled a lot of pride in us. Queens Get The Money is forever our motto. When P died, that hit hard. First rapper I ever met and I've seen him live a couple of times. I hated how his mural in QB was vandalized. I visited several times before and after they messed it up. QB Politics is a real thing.

Thanks Sav. I’m dating myself here but I’m pretty sure I had this on a cassette single when I was a kid. Well really it was my brothers tape. Or maybe it was actually a CD? I think it was the official shook ones part 2 single for The Infamous and it had this song as well.

Also back then, if you bought the h--- on Earth cd, you could put it in your cd rom drive on your computer and access “hidden” content. It was so stupid looking back but me and my friends would constantly throw it on the computer and look at the content. It was revolutionary for its time but boy it would not stand up well at all to todays standards lmao.

Also, since we’re on the subject of forgotten originals to classic NY hip hop songs, don’t forget this one! It was the Reasonable Doubt promotional single but it was ultimately replaced by Dead Presidents 2 when the album officially released.

Havoc is an underrated producer. He really knew how to make that grimy NY sound. You see this?:

Cant even imagine how it would be to have Mobb deep as a "local hero", from a perspective of a fan thats far away, in a really small town in Europe that is just a crazy thought to me, i can totally see the pride in that, amazing. I always enjoy to read ur post man, a thread where u drop stories, knowledge or trivias would be f---ing awesome

yeah it was on the b-side to shook ones pt 2 before being a bonus track to h--- on earth

according to wikipedia it was first released as a street single between juvenile h--- and the infamous before shook ones pt ii was even a thing, but I didn't know that tbh

Also: if y’all have never read Prodigy’s memoir, it’s prob the best rap bio I’ve ever read and one of the best memoirs I’ve read period. Full of stories about his time at G-unit as well as the early days with Nas, Wu, etc. When you really get to hear about the trauma in his life from his perspective you really start to understand why Mobb Deep could be so bleak.

@Tone Riggz should def make a thread dropping some knowledge if he feels like it, it seems like he has an anecdote for d--- near every NY rapper ever and I’m always interested in those stories.

My Infamous Life is a great read although it was the source of a lot of beef, including the QB mural getting vandalized.

I appreciate that but I don’t think I have much else to add outside of anything I posted on RB/SL.

oh s--- that’s crazy, I didn’t realize it was a promotional single after juvenile h---. That’s interesting. Thanks for sharing that.

I sure have! I’m a HOV Stan. I think he’s the greatest rapper alive lol. I haven’t heard DP3 in so many yeas though! I’m so glad you posted it.
