Why are we discussing influence ? Not every great album or debut had to create an influence on the genre

also rap as a whole did change after 50 for few years. Dont know about influence but he def had an impact

this tbh. like why even bother delving that deep into influence, you then gotta discuss whether it's a good or bad influence etc. etc.f--- that gay s---, just look at numbers, 50 wins lmao GG welp

i obv agree with you but we were talking about influence specifically, not necessarily that that makes something great alone

    50 >> Snoop

50 is very influential, most these newer New York rappers list 50 as their number 1 rapper.

    Young MA
    Yo Gotti
    Pop Smoke RIP

    ^^ for example

where do you find 50 in kendrick’s music? you can draw a direct line from kurupt, wayne, outkast, and eminem to kendrick.

the influence isn't as obvious as wayne's, but off the top: doesn't this hook remind you of 50?

idk, i often hear 50's nonchalant yet melodic flow in some of Kendrick's 09-12 music, but maybe it's just me

I love 50 and GRODT is a great album but it’s not even close to Doggystyle imo. Doggystyle is not only one of the most influential rap albums ever but it’s a near-perfect record that you can make an argument for being in the top 10 greatest rap albums of all time. I couldn’t put GRODT in a top 10 or even a top 25. GRODT is def an iconic, must-listen rap album but the stanning in this thread has been almost as bad as the Em sxn lol

50 did change the game as far as marketing yourself. His mixtape game influenced modern-day rappers. The whole Shady/Aftermath signing was that of a football player. The dynamics of rap were changed forever. GRODT is a classic but he was lucky to catch Em and Dre in the peaks of their careers. He hasn't dropped anything remotely as good since. 17 years now to be exact.

Lmfao yeah alroight 50 hasn't dropped anything as good as GRODT since GRODT whatever. But wtf has snoop done outside of like 4 albums, that isn't trash?

    It's their debut album we discussing here, if you wanna go left or right of that and start bringing up s--- after their debut then;

DMX - It’s Dark and h--- is Hot.

This is one of the greatest rap debut albums ever. I still give the nod to biggie’s ready to die. But DMX has a legit argument.

This dude was without a doubt the biggest rapper on the planet in 98 and 99. He went on the Hard Knock Life tour with redman and method man and Jay Z obviously headlined. And without a doubt DMX was not only the best performance of the night, it was clear most of the people in that arena were there to see him live. This concert was the 2nd best rap concert I ever saw live. I should see if this show was taped and available online. I’d love to see it again after all these years.

DMX was the first and only rapper to debut at #1 on the billboard top 200 with 2 different albums in the same calendar year (its dark and later that year he released flesh of my flesh). He was the only person to do it until future accomplished the feat in 2017 when he released Future and Hndrxx in back to back weeks.
