I would say it’s strange that this is coming before we got the rest of the stuff from MMLP20, but we’re talking about Em’s promo team here lol

You couldn’t get away from that song. It was EVERYWHERE. Absolute hit (love it or hate it).

    I miss 2010.

Love The Way You Lie is Ems worst song by far. Even Wee Wee is more enjoyable.

"same old Eminem on the lyrics"?? not even remotely. Do you actually believe this lol

Was MMLP-era Eminem (or h--- even Relapse-era Eminem) saying s--- like "f--- a steak, slut, I'll cut my toes off and step on the receipt 'fore I foot the bill!!!" ? The answer is no, of course not

The problem with anything post-Encore is that you can hear the calculations being made in real time. Nothing is organic. And Recovery, which sounds like it was focus-grouped within an inch of its life, might be the worst offender of this. On Relapse he was trying to do "crazy Slim Shady s---" because he thought it's what people wanted (maybe it was, for some, but he did it all wrong). With Recovery, he had internalized the failures of Relapse, which was a good first step, but as a result he's constantly straining for approval. Better subject matter was a bonus, definitely, as is the expanded list of producers, but many of his other decisions were misguided. The features are all chart-topping artists, the beats were mostly soulless, pandering pop, and the lyrics were try-hard punchlines like the one I quoted above, which had become more and more popular because artists like Lil Wayne could actually pull them off. Em didn't want to be himself; he wanted to play the version of himself he thought we would like best.

So is the album good? Well, no. Its puppy dog eagerness to please is extremely grating, it buckles (like many Em albums) under the weight of a bloated runtime.........and most importantly, aside from a few exceptions, the songs just don't hold up.

I never understoood the "too commercial" and "too many punchlines"

Its the same old eminem on the lyrics, the only commercial thing are the beats.

And theres only around 3 - 4 songs where he's doing the punchline thing.

    Great album.

I liked it when it dropped and it was def a "moment" in terms of his career but it's easily his second worst album after Revival. Aged horribly (and prob wasn't that great at the time either I think we were just excited for the shift from relapse). Production is terrible, full of bad punchlines, has some of his most soulless pop songs. Tried listening to it again in the past six months and I couldn't make it through.

Spacebound, Going Through Changes, Wayne's verse on No Love are good.

f--- da world feed it beans itS GASSED UP

Always loved Recovery. I know. It’s not his best but it was special at that moment for me.

Plus recovery era was the last time that Em was BIG. He was on the top of the world again and i felt happy to see that. Even the collaborations of that era were sooo dope, Airplanes pt 2 top 5 Em verse ever and i love Where im at Ft Lloyd Banks.

Fav songs : Cold winds blows, GTC, Not afraid, Seduction, No love, Cinderella Man, Almost Famous and untitled.

The problem with Recovery is that Em tried to recreate that success too many times after 2010. He ruined the concept of MMLP2 and we all know what happened with revival. Recovery should have been just that: 1 album with that style.

Yeah, it's success I'm not questioning at all - that's not even up for debate it gave him two diamond singles. But nearly everyone in here saying it's a classic or one of his best albums I guarantee haven't revisited it once in the last year. It's because to all the people that hated Relapse and thought it was s--- Recovery next to it looks like the greatest album of all-time in their head.

Like no one's listening to Talking 2 Myself, Cold Wind Blows or Almost Famous for example in their daily rotation. Let alone Won't Back Down etc. I mean I was like that back then too, I was 16 I think when it came out and it not having the weird accent automatically gave it an automatic 9/10 to 16 year old me probably. It's how s--- most people think Relapse is that makes this feel so much better to them. The production is f---ing horrendous too. The whole album feels very template-y.

A very overlooked Eminem project. People love to s--- on Recovery, but its underrated, just like the album before it.

Yes, production has a some pop elements to it. But it sounds really fantastic. This album would've aged better only if he hadn't milked that sound to death till 2017 when the world had moved to trap instrumentals.
Lyrically, definetly plenty of awful punchlines, but there's still enough greatness to balance it out. Cold Wind Blows, Talkin' 2 Myself, On Fire, GTC, Seduction, No Love, Space Bound, Almost Famous still bump really hard till this day.
This album introduced me to hip hop. Got shittons of memories with this one.

8.5/10 and around his 6th best.
However, the biggest L was not including "Cocaine" and "Fly Away" and instead opting for WBD and WTP.
