Jul 10, 2020 I've seen many comments on rappers being 'old' whether its about eminem, snoop, or dre, or jay or whatever. But when I look at other genres like rock they are still at it like in their 70's.. rappers are called 'old' in their 40's or 50's. I do however get that subject matter (some) rappers use is not something u expect from middle aged men but not sure if thats the only reason. 50 year olds calling names on twitter is kinda embarrassing ofc but thats not just rappers doing it.
Jul 10, 2020 Man, so many dope threads at once... I don't care about age at all. My fav rappers could be Pato's grandfathers. I still listen to Public Enemy, KRS-One etc.etc.
Jul 10, 2020 I always looked at rap as a young man’s game. Music grows older as people do. Rap is still kind of young when you think about it; at least compared to Rock. There aren’t too many rappers that have reached that type of twilight yet, even tho they may already have artistically. Mick Jagger is still dancing around on stage. Alice Cooper still painting his face. I think the Jay Zs, and the snoops will still be making music into their 60s or even 70s. Someone like KRS One has to be pushing 60 and he still semi regularly releases music.
Jul 10, 2020 No one wants to hear a 50 year old man make a song about his stepdad like he’s an angsty teenager still.
Jul 10, 2020 True lol but I also dont want to hear a 50 year old father talk about p---- -or whatever subject thats kinda strange for someone that age- I should have left ems name out because I really was speaking in general tbh
Jul 10, 2020 In theory, talking about p---- would be fine as long as it still sounds cool. When it starts getting into the creepy territory of drake talking about 2000s babies wanting to f--- him it sounds weird lmao
Jul 10, 2020 Nah, it's not that. Rock has been around and popular for much longer. Let's not forget that Dre was one of the pioneers of rap as we know it. Or knew it at least. So he's kinda gotta be the benchmark. When he's in his 70's, the others you talked about will either be dead or put of the game for decades so not talked about. People on 20 years time could be saying the same thing about rap.
Jul 11, 2020 True but even drake at 35 is weird saying that. What I specifically meant is just in general people saying s--- like 'oh man dre is 50 years old just retire' and I'm like why if he keeps putting out dope music? Compton and now maybe a solid kanye collab -fingers crossed-
Jul 11, 2020 There is a common misconception that the older you get get, the worst you get. I don't think it's true at all.
Jul 11, 2020 Rap is still a relatively young genre. It’s been around for 40 or so years. It hasn’t quite established it’s older generation yet the way Rock has. It’s getting there though. Artists get old, their fans get old. s--- I’m technically an Old Head in my 30s. It wasn’t that long ago that I was the young kid learning from the older generations. And I still have lots to learn, those people are still around. I think young people can be stubborn about learning Hip Hop history but I also think older people have to do a better job of passing down the knowledge.
Jul 11, 2020 I think it’s a surface-level insult to be thrown in about an artist when you have nothing with substance left to critique about them.
