I made a similar list on SL in the last topic, but 2014 has been a GREAT f---ing year for rap in my opinion. 2013 was probably slightly better, but I've gotten varying milage out of these:
Piñata - MaddGibbs
Run the Jewels 2 - Killer Mike & El-P
Cilvia Demo - Isaiah Rashad
Cadillactica - Big K.R.I.T.
My Krazy Life - YG
Days Before Rodeo - Travis Scott
Dark Comedy - Open Mike Eagle
Your Old Droop EP - Your Old Droog
Good to Be Home - Blu
h--- Can Wait - Vince Staples
Rich g--- Mixtape - Young Thug & Rich Homie Quan
Convertibles - Chuck Inglish
Oxymoron - Schoolboy Q
Faces - Mac Miller
Jimmy the Burnout - Nocando
Flying Lotus - You're Dead!
Clppng - Clipping
NehruvianDOOM - MF Doom & Bishop Nehru
...and then you s---t your cousin - The Roots
Nobody's Smiling - Common
Mastermind - Rick Ross
Neon Icon - Riff Raff (well, just a few songs, but you kinda get what you expect with a Riff Raff album)
I still listen to My Krazy Life, Days Before Rodeo, Cilvia Demo, and Piñata regularly. RTJ2 and Cadillactica are still pretty new but I've been listening to those a lot as well.
I'll paraphrase what I said on SL: people who say 2014 is a s-----y year for rap are probably either growing out of the genre (which is fine, but you shouldn't make blanket statements), not looking hard enough/listening out of their comfort zone, or are one of those 40-year-old dudes who post on the Lil Wayne facebook page about how much better Afrika Bambaataa is.Ordinary Joel, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and Peter Parker like this.Dec 20, 2025(This ad goes away when signing up)
