Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) (Dir. George Miller)


Pretty good. Kind of overwhelming for me. Has me interested in the universe. Couldn't have asked for more given the circumstances of the franchise. It barreled forward expertly, but I like to see films that can slow down as well. Still a fun watch, if not a bit numbing.


Night of the Living Dead (1968) (Dir. George A. Romero)


Jesus, this looks like it could have been made in 1955 lol. Hilarious contrast to an epic like Fury Road. Loved the character transition at the beginning. Duan Jones was in the zone. I died when he smacked the white girl unconscious. I loved the fact that the d-ck head was right about the cellar the whole time. Ballsy ending as well.

The film is a celebration of small-town life, which prospers because of the sacrifices and selflessness of individuals. And essential to its extraordinary enduring power is the towering presence of James Stewart, the greatest everyman hero of Hollywood's golden era. His descent from pillar of the community to wild-eyed madman is utterly convincing and deeply unsettling.. 10/10



Direction gives a firm command to this Epic tale. A vision of extreme clarity and real feeling for the titanic psychological struggles. The film is brilliant, and gripping with some of the best acting I've seen in a film--important but never preachy. I feel the point made in this film, is that War is made to look like a futile effort and those who are in it are subject to fits of madness.. 9.3/10



One of my favorite Noirs, and greatly overlooked. It has to have one of the best character reveals in any film to date. I don't want to spoil the details for those who haven't seen it, but given how protective movie stars are of their reputations, how desperate they seem to be to be loved unequivocally by their audience, it's great to see Monroe playing against that, and especially nice that she's given more to do than just stand around and be sexy. She was definitely a great actress, and you can just about see the Actors Studio method at work in her performance. And good acting is contagious—Widmark, Cook, Bancroft (in her screen debut) and even Donna Corcoran as Bunny turn in fine work.. 8.5/10

Eucht. I watched two incredibly terrible horror movies. Come to daddy with Elijah wood just had no suspense whatsoever. The rental, Dave Franco's directional debut, was a bit intriguing in the first half, second half was just a horrible smasher flick. Yeah I said smasher, not slasher, because this dude smashed the victims heads with a hammer.
The ending was okay, only because the lost dog comes back and scampers away, as I hoped for. But yeah stay away from these movies unless you're having trouble sleeping because they're both f---in snooze fests.

I own the dvd, but I watched it on Turner Classic Movies the other morning..and even though I've seen it multiple times, I had to watch it again. It's a great film, and an essential Noir.. 8.8/10



An amazing film..very well acted; one of Hitchcock's masterpiece's and one of my favorite films of all time. Grace Kelly looks stunning as always, and she's perfect in her role.. 10/10

Though I'm not nor have ever been an eleven-year-old girl, I really dug Inside Out, Pixar's best imo since Up. For what's rather high-concept for a kids' film, Inside Out seamlessly applies its conceit at a breakneck pace through a series of increasingly clever gags and scenarios. I was very impressed overall.

some movies I've watched lately

To the Wonder - Uhhhhh had some major problems with this one. As per usual with Malick, there are moments of absolute beauty - the sort of things you rarely see in cinema, that few filmmakers aside from Malick could pull off. But on the whole, this seems to veer closer to self-parody than anything else he's done (although, full disclosure: I haven't seen The New World). It feels meandering and unfinished, a far cry from the powerful, moving Tree of Life (which was released just a year earlier). As much as I hate to say it, I'd have to deem this one a failure. 5.5/10

Dumb and Dumber To - This was always a bad idea, but there was a small part of me thinking maybe they could pull it off. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels slip effortlessly back into their roles as if no time has passed, but unfortunately the writers weren't up to the challenge. This is an almost insultingly bad story, and while viewers aren't looking for a smart or complex plot in this type of movie, there aren't enough laughs to make up for it. While there are certainly some moments I enjoyed (mostly some of the darker moments that took me by surprise, as opposed to the predictable moments that aped the predecessor, a la the Hangover and Anchorman sequels), overall this is mostly a waste of time. 4/10

There Will Be Blood - This was probably my tenth viewing or so, and it only seems to get better with time. There's not much to say that I haven't said before, but this would certainly make my shortlist for favorite film of all time. 10/10

Big Eyes - I was genuinely taken aback at how corny the dialogue was in this film at times. It's a compelling story, and one worth telling, but it's hampered by a script that consistently feels like amateur hour. Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz are fine (although both have seen better days, to be sure), and the film gets more entertaining as it approaches its climax, but overall this is merely passable and competent. On the bright side, I'm pretty thrilled Burton and Depp are spending some time apart. 6/10

Top Five - Finally, a Chris Rock film worthy of his talent. Top Five certainly has its share of flaws (for one, it suffers from erratic and jarring changes of tone that a better filmmaker probably could have fixed), but it's a consistently funny and likable comedy. 8/10

Inherent Vice - On some levels this was really, really good. On other levels it was just as messy as I'd feared it would be - because how could that be avoided, given the source material? I tend to think that (based on the little I have read) Pynchon is nearly unadaptable, but it's hard to deny that PTA did the best possible job he could've done with this book. The soundtrack is top-notch, the casting is brilliant (with Joaquin Phoenix and Josh Brolin in particular both turning in hilarious, nuanced performances), the dialogue is a lot more faithful than I would have expected. And yet, like the book, it's all just sort of a headache in the end, isn't it? I liked this a lot, and think I could like it even more given additional viewings, but I'm pretty sure this is PTA's weakest since Hard Eight. 8/10

Finally got around to watching Across The Spider-Verse after I saw the steel book at the store today and bought it. This s--- was amazing. I think this might be the best Spider-Man movie yet… until Beyond the Spider-Verse comes out. Can’t wait.

FELLAS I WATCHED SOME PEAK TODAY


Genuinely one of the prettiest pieces of media ever made if it's not at the top spot which you could argue.

I've been feeling superhero fatigue lately but movies this well executed on a visual level and a writing level, making very smart metacommentary on spiderman and superheroes as a whole without feeling too pandering and looking d--- good while doing it helped make me realize that it's not the superheroes creating the fatigue, it's that the movies are just getting progressively more bad lmao.

d--- near a 10 for me but it's a part 1 so I'm waiting for the 2nd to come out to judge it as a package.

Only major complaint was low audio mixing on some parts making it hard to hear a couple lines if you aren't listening closely, but that is a wide spreading issue that the creators are already trying to fix.

Yeah, most of these superhero movies are getting extremely formulaic. DC is pretty bad for the most part, but Marvel these days isn’t much better either. Unless it’s a Spider-Man movie or an Avengers movie, I probably won’t be watching it or at least won’t be very excited. Then again, the future Avengers movies are probably gonna s--- too based on the superheroes we have left.
