Stars are gonna get Ben Bishop. The Bolts just signed our backup goalie Vasy to a three year deal, as well as signing our star defenseman Hedman to an 8 year deal. Happy and sad.

Backes might have received the most problematic contract in this free agency. I think you guys got good value in Staal.

Let him walk, you can win with a hot goalie like Pits did. His rumoured 7x7 is ridiculous.

Locking up Stammer and Hedman for close to a decade is huge for the Bolts. You have an 8 year window to win the cup. I think you guys do this year.

Yeah, but I think we win it last year with Bishop. Vasy is a beast of a goalie but since he can't speak a lick of English he isn't able to command his defenders in the back and keep everything how he needs it like Bishop was able to. But yes, with Hedman and Stamkos for the next 8 years combined with the rest of our pieces, I think we will be a great team for years to come and can seriously contend for a cup again this year. But if the Stars get Ben Bishop they will be immediate cup contenders on the west, IMO.

    Lucic - McDavid - Yakupov
    Pouliot - RNH - Eberle
    Maroon - Draisaitl - Puljujarvi
    Hendricks - Letestu - Kassian

    Klefbom - Larsson
    Sekera - Nurse
    Davidson - Fayne

    Talbot
    Gustavsson

Those first 3 lines are wild. The D still needs work though. Oilers finally make the playoffs this year I think.

Their d was blown up though, they lost Demers, Goligoski and Russel and added an aging Hamhuis who Canucks fans say is a #4 at best now. Even with Bishop, I don't think the Stars can win against more complete teams like the Kings or the Blackhawks.

@IZZO can tell you how good Hamhuis is now, but he's not the Olympian from a couple years ago anymore.

So many dumb contracts handed out yesterday, so happy the Penguins didn't have any cap space to add anyone. I really don't get these ones:
Darren Helm- Almost $4 million for a guy that's fast and well....that's about it. There are plenty of guys just like him in the minors that can do the same thing he does for 1/4th that price.
Frans Nielsen- 6 years for a 32 year old is already stupid, but giving him over $5 million for that long to a guy who's score 20 goals twice in his career? I don't get it. Seems like Detroit cleared up money for Stamkos but when he went back to Tampa they decided they had to blow it on the first names they came across.
Andrew Ladd- $5.5 million for a guy that's cracked 60 points once and has never scored 30 goals? He's a good player and this may not be bad in the short term, but giving him 7 years when he's already 30?
Milan Lucic- He's a really good player and plays a style that the Oilers have really lacked but they gave him the same amount per year as they were paying Hall and 7 years is way too long of a contract for a player that plays his style. Lucic isn't even close to the player Hall is and I have a feeling they will really regret this one by his 3rd or 4th year. This is probably still the best contract on this list but I'm still not a fan.
David Backes- Good, not great player. He's already 32 and his best days are behind him, he'll be a 4th line center at best by the end of these 5 years.
Dale Weise and Matt Martin-Put these 2 together because their pretty similar. They are both at best 4th liners with very little talent. 4th liners should never get deals of 4 years OR a contract making over $2 million per year, somehow both of these guys got both of those things.
Kris Russell- He hasn't even signed yet but I get the feeling someone will sign him to a stupid contract. He gets overrated for some reason and whoever does sign him will end up regretting it.

I'd say at least 3 of the guys on this list are bought out by the end of their deal.

Yup, the 7 years makes me so uncomfortable.

But on the bright side, he'll be playings as a 34 year old in his final year with the Oilers, and the NTC is waived after the 5th year, so they can trade him after he's 32.

Not sure i like the Backes move all that much due to his age. Probably makes Krejci expendable now for some D help. Backes isn't gonna be the 3rd line C with a 6 M cap hit, thats why they have Spooner.

The fact that I'm happy that he's out of our conference tells you how hard of a player he's been to play against.

But yeah, it's a potentially problematic contract. But like you said, it's a move that allows you to retool if you can get some value for Krejci.

I'm still not sure why Sweeney moved Dougie Hamilton.

That's a lot of years, including this year he's under control for 9 more years.
