Season 2 — which is influenced by the Cohen brothers’ Fargo, Miller’s Crossing and The Man Who Wasn’t There — is “going to be the story of Sioux Falls,” Hawley revealed. “It will take place in 1979.” As such, a younger version of Keith Carradine’s character Lou Solverson, aka Molly’s dad, will be introduced. It was established on the show that in 1979, he worked on a Sioux Falls task force with oneday Duluth police lieutenant Ben Schmidt, who will also “factor in there somewhere” in Season 2. The Lou that viewers meet in 1979 is a 33-year-old man recently returned from Vietnam who “thought he’d left the war behind and here it is, it’s domestic [now].”
    * Molly’s mother will be introduced and fans may learn what happened to her, Hawley teased. Could Allison Tolman possibly play her alter ego’s own mother? “I haven’t considered it,” Hawley admitted. “It seems a little gimmicky to me and like cheating. It’s something that’s certainly worth thinking about.” (Molly is four-years-old in 1979, FYI.)
    * Some of the action will also take place in Laverne, Minnesota, and, of course, Fargo. “Minnesota [and] North Dakota, that region is a character in the show,” Hawley said. “That’s part of the personality. Believe me, we would do Fargo, Honolulu, if we could get away with it. But we can’t.”
    * Season 2 will s---t from January to May

The show was ultimately disappointing. It felt like a Fargo fan's interpretation of the Coen's Fargo universe, without a proper understanding of what made the film so great. It was all very surface-level-derivative.

I think the show needs to stay grounded to truly reach its potential. I loved the premise, but it went way over the top. Short and sweet is what made the film capable of such an impact.

I thought Martin Freeman was exceptional as Lester, though. And his wardrobe design was A+

Yeah Martin Freeman and Billy Bob made the first season.

Without those characters to carry every episode the show will suffer.

I agree I wasn't pleased with the show --derivative is probably the right word for it, despite their best efforts. Like, it was well-done and had some intrigue, but ultimately just felt contrived, like they put the original movie in a blender, then tried to web a mystery/universe around it. Meh, pass.

Bruce Campbell to Play Ronald Reagan in Season 2

“[Reagan]’s on his first campaign [and he] makes a swing through Fargo," FX Networks CEO John Landgraf mentioned a few months back. "Some of the characters have some interactions with him. And some of his movies are also a part of the show.”

    looking forward to season 2...

The sprawling cast of Fargo Season 2 also includes Cristin Milioti as Lou’s wife, Michael Hogan and Jean Smart as heads of the Gerhardt crime family, Brad Garrett as the frontman for a Kansas City crime syndicate, Nick Offerman as a local lawyer, and Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons as other members of the community.

FX’s Fargo finally has its Ronald Reagan. Bruce Campbell is set to play the Gipper in the upcoming second season of the FX crime drama, joining Patrick Wilson and Ted Danson.

First season wasn't bad. I don't see what's to complain about. They did a pretty good job considering they were trying to live up to a near perfect movie with a cult following made by two of the most talented filmmakers of the past ~25 years. Freeman and Thorton were excellent at least. I'm more interested to see what they do with a second season. I see a lot of potential if they shed so much of the influence from the film.
