Dec 13, 2020 Gangsta em era is so underrated. He wasnt at his best but he had a very unique sounding music at that time
Dec 13, 2020 was encore always gonna be called encore or was there some early version of it from 03 or early 04
Dec 13, 2020 It is unique, and I accepted it as a fresh direction at the time, but man its crazy how the lyrical quality took a nosedive in such a short amount of time. Oh well, we all know the story and it's fun to just appreciate what it was now!
Dec 13, 2020 “this is no storybook ending this is only the beggining” I Will. Last song on MTBMB Side A.
Dec 13, 2020 He sounded better when he wasn't trying to be so lyrical tbh. Compared to today. Unless you're talking about the lyrical content during that time period to which I agree.
Dec 13, 2020 Yeah, I kinda meant from the anger/hunger on MMLP and the effortless charisma on TES. It was a stark contrast to trying so hard to sound like the tough guy during the gangster era. Even though the flow and skill is there, it was a period of resting on his laurels and quality suffered as a result. But I'm probably not saying anything that anyone doesn't already acknowledge here. Compared to today, I'm not sure which I prefer. I think I'd take Kami-present over 04-08 but like you said there is an undeniable appeal to Eminem not constantly trying to layer as many meanings behind every word/syllable as possible.
Dec 13, 2020 I put on Em x Crook interview on YT while doing assignments. Apparently, Em values lyrical ability more than storytelling or anything else. And MTBMB was just him hitting it off with some cool lyrics. So it wasn't meant to be a masterpiece or anything. Side-B, however.
Dec 13, 2020 What other artists are there if there are any that had the same trajectory where the later half of their career sounds like a completely different person when it come to their voice and songwriting
Dec 13, 2020 Oh I see what you mean and agree. A lot of the stuff during that time period sounded lazy. It's like he was on autopilot and didn't care. But his flow was still on point. He's made some of the worst songs of his career during that that era. Stuff like Big Weenie. But i'd still take the highs of that era over Kamikaze. Tracks like When I'm Gone, Toy Soldier etc.. He also killed it with his verse on You Don't Know. That song is an absolute b-----r. There's still quite a lot of good stuff he did between 04-08. Em's flow in recent years has been so hard for me to get into. It's really hit or miss when back then the flow has never been an issue.
Dec 13, 2020 Yup, that's been quite obvious for a while now. And it's unfourtunate because his best songs and the ones that will go down in history are all about story telling. Stan, Lose Yourself, Sing For The Moment etc.. These are the types songs that made me an Eminem fan. Not the miracle lyrical s---.
Dec 13, 2020 The f----- up s--- is he could still do it REALLY well lol I'm sure if someone guided him into making an entire album of those kinda songs with no yes men he could make some classic s---
Dec 13, 2020 The secrecy around this makes me think it’s def a full-length 12th album and not like Refill. If this was just a quick Christmas time cash grab, I don’t think they’d be going the secretive route for a few bonus tracks.
Dec 13, 2020 It's definitely gotta be longer than a few bonus tracks though I think they would do the secret route either way
