Aug 8, 2020The fall off of Kanye is amazing because it showcased just how hypocritical people can be
now its fine to have almost a decade of your work be utter trash

I think this might be close on here.
For me its, no surprise, Jay.
Let me start by saying their collabs (on their albums and their collab WTT are the best thing ever to me).
MBDTF is my favorite album of all time probably. And LR, CD, Graduation and 808 are also classics to me. Yeezus was fine, TLOP a wasted opportunity and to me ye and jik were average - bad. In between the dude dropped hits and misses (like, he absolutely killed Live Fast / Die Young but went full I hope u Diarreah on the Cudi song.. could have been ghostwritten by someone).
Even a few years back I loved his verse on Pop Style. But at the same time he dropped a lot of weirdo s--- and lots of his music leaked (which included a lot of actual mumble rap). Some of it had a lot of potential tho as Yhandi (s/o @Donkey Kong Cuntry ) pointed out.
I'm not gonna discuss his shenanigans, lets focus on their actual output.
As for Jay. The dude has 4 classics to me. Bp1, AG, TBA, RD. But then like most of the rest is 8/10 for me as well. Even his 'worst' album is kinda hard to hate when it got a few killer Dre collabs on it. Speaking of Dre, he and Jay are responsible for my favorite, most perfect rap song (The Watcher).
Guest verses, he always kills them. Back in the day, but also in the 2010's (d--- dealer Anonymous, Seen It All, What's Free). Yes he had some misses for sure (* cough * Monster) but he doesn't f--- up guest verses the way some others do.
Despite all that they are responsible for eachothers succes for a huge part. Hov gave Ye shine, and Ye created some of Jays biggest songs. So yeah I'm totally comfortable having these guys as my 2 favorites along w Weezy.

Couple years ago I would’ve sweat over this and maybe given the edge to Kanye, but even Hov’s worst albums aren’t hitting the depths of Ye and JIKVos, RetiredAccount, Michael Myers and 2 others like this. -

Definitely Jay...
I don't love TLOP as much as everyone else seems to on here. It's a decent album with a few great songs but also sounds very unfinished and half assed. I don't understand how that's somehow a positive thing for some people, but putting out an unfinished product isn't something I'm going to praise. And after TLOP, Kanye just fell off pretty much as badly as Eminem.
Meanwhile, Jay has like 3 average albums out of 13 (BP3, MCHG and Kingdom Come). The rest range from classic to good. He's also 50 years old and just put out an album with Jay Electronica and was rapping like he's 26 again.David26, Ordinary Joel, lil uzi vert stan and 1 other person like this. -

Re “bars on bars”
I think Hov deserves credit for being one of a very limited number of rappers who managed to reconcile being super technical and lyrical with making fun, accessible music that you can play in social settings. Rap nerds can comb through his lyrics and pick apart the rhyme schemes and double entendres, and more casual listeners can play his singles at a party without everyone walking outVos, Ordinary Joel, Buddha and 1 other person like this. -

Hov easily. He’s the greatest rapper alive and top 5 all time. Kanye has made a ton of classic material no doubt and made a monumental impact on the culture but even with all his accomplishments and accolades, I still feel like Hov is on another level imo.
The fact Kanye came up under Hov and was on Rockafella is insane. That would be like Jordan and Lebron being on the same team.Ordinary Joel, Fire Squad, Worm and 1 other person like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

I had absolutely forgotten Jay had two full length albums with R Kelly, speaking of atrocities
It’s a hair splitting decision, I think I lean more towards Kanye on a more personal note even if I haven’t been as attached to his music in years. Can’t be mad at either choice really.Ordinary Joel, Boos, DKC and 1 other person like this. -

Ppl act like Jay’s output outside of 4:44 hasn’t been painfully average lol. MCHG, the carters, etc - just average. I feel like Jay isn’t consistent at all. At least with Kanye, each time we’ve received great releases up until Ye.Ordinary Joel, Rodamon and lil uzi vert stan like this. -
