Kanye and Hov got about equal highs, the lows broke the tie. The first 6 Kanye albums is obviously a legendary run, but he suffered the quickest and most drastic decline since Eminem

I had absolutely forgotten Jay had two full length albums with R Kelly, speaking of atrocities :hov:

It’s a hair splitting decision, I think I lean more towards Kanye on a more personal note even if I haven’t been as attached to his music in years. Can’t be mad at either choice really.

There were songs imo jay took (nip, no church) and a few kanye did (otis, who gon stop me). Overall I think Jay is the better rapper but its the combination of them that made wtt so gr8 imo

Hov easily. He’s the greatest rapper alive and top 5 all time. Kanye has made a ton of classic material no doubt and made a monumental impact on the culture but even with all his accomplishments and accolades, I still feel like Hov is on another level imo.

The fact Kanye came up under Hov and was on Rockafella is insane. That would be like Jordan and Lebron being on the same team.

    Re “bars on bars”

I think Hov deserves credit for being one of a very limited number of rappers who managed to reconcile being super technical and lyrical with making fun, accessible music that you can play in social settings. Rap nerds can comb through his lyrics and pick apart the rhyme schemes and double entendres, and more casual listeners can play his singles at a party without everyone walking out

Jay-Z and this is coming from someone who's always favored Nas.

Jay is a top tier rapper with five good quality albums just like Ye and has much more credibility as a hip hop artist overall.

Ye is great. His discography is top notch but he's no more of a rapper than Drake is and a lot of his "influence" on hip hop is pretty overstated. There's people who used to rap EXACTLY like Jay at times...even Wayne used to shark Jay a lot. Nobody really raps like Kanye though, except 09-11 era Drake. People automatically assume any rapper who's introspective and is perceived as "soft" is directly influenced by Kanye but that's a Mr. Fantastic levels of reach.

If Jay drops another album like 4:44, I might rank him over Ye discography wise.

and another thing if Jay drops another (good) record that will be 4 decades of being relevant. That's amazing. If the question is who is a better rapper? Jay-Z by a million miles. You can argue Kanye just as an artist.
