Dec 9, 2014 I noticed this when it first leaked and I just assumed it was something to do with the rip but after picking up the physical CD it still has an extremely noticeable skip : 08 seconds in and then another less noticeable one at :16 seconds. Was this intentional or did these skips accidentally make their way into the final product? They just sound way too out of place for me to believe that they're intentional but at the same time I can't see a messed up track making it all the way to the point that it ended up on the pressed copies.
Dec 9, 2014 yea this was bothering me too and i thought it was just cause i was listening to the leak.. havent listened to the CD i just bought, but its there too?
Dec 9, 2014 Yup. If anybody grabbed it from iTunes and could let me know if that version has the skipping as well, that would be greatly appreciated.
Dec 9, 2014 my friend got the iTunes, says it skips also.. I think it was a mistake that they overlooked and it was too late to change when they turned in the final product for processing
Dec 10, 2014 Yeah, it's there as a part of the song. Most likely just an editing mistake, which is strange because it's blatantly obvious when you listen to the track. Hard to believe nobody caught it before the track was mastered.
Dec 10, 2014 You can hear the artifacts from the sample and the noise/scratching. It sounds like at each of those skipping points it was the end of the sample and then a restart. The first one sounds too jarring to be intentional but I don't know maybe they they are.
Feb 20, 2015 Album is fire, but this is absolute horse s---. Not because I'm such a princess who can't deal with a bit of skipping, but because it makes me wonder what other lazy/rushed producing or "mastering" occurred which ultimately takes away from Cole's musical vision.
Feb 20, 2015 It's a little annoying but doesn't bother me hardly at all... The song is my favorite on the album
Feb 20, 2015 It was done on purpose, if you were to add a drum & bass over the sample youd notice it was done to keep it onbeat. It is pretty annoying when there is no drums on it.. If i was J.Cole i would of kept the sample in its original format & cut it for the rest of the beat, just so it sounds smooth sonically.
Jun 9, 2015 I think it was done on purpose to give it the dated feel of like a record player or old film tapes. I think it's originality.
Jun 9, 2015 Welcome bro, enjoy your nice post to like ratio while it lasts Anyway, i honestly didn't even notice this skip and it is one of my favourite songs on the album.
Jun 9, 2015 Just listened and yeah, that is pretty jarring. Intentional or not, I think it was too much.
Sep 6, 2016 He said people's names. That's why you hear that skipping when he says them. I wonder if people were even paying attention to the lyrics.
