Quiet as kept, TDE's Punch might be the internet's best troll. This was on full display when the label president caught wind of people playing with Kendrick Lamar's name.

It's habitual for Twitter to pin entertainers against each other by posing general or hypothetical questions that would excite their fanbases. Over the weekend, it was Kendrick Lamar and Lupe Fiasco's turn to be thrown into the mix. On Sunday, Lupe quote tweeted a post asking if he or Kendrick Lamar was the better lyricist.

"Lupe but..." Fiasco said in the tweet. Although he deleted the post, it still caught the attention of Punch who responded with three simple letters that said so much more than "laughing out loud."

Fiasco has worked with Ab-Soul on the song "World Runners" from Soulo's These Days... album in 2014. He also gave Ab-Soul's 2017 project Do What Thou Wilt a free album review. Still, Fiasco hasn't shied away from channeling the same energy that birthed Dot's "Control" verse when addressing Kendrick.

In 2018, Lupe stated that Kendrick wasn't a top tier rapper in his eyes. He then walked back the statement by explaining that this is hip-hop and he was merely being confrontational for the sport of the genre.

"Maybe I should have just left it alone," Lupe said per HipHopDX. "Even though my impetus was the ‘Control’ verse. I mean you put yourself out there like that. So, you opened yourself up to critique… I apologize for even engaging and talking about n****s careers, I’ll never do that s--- again."

Lupe returned to Twitter to further elaborate on his Kendrick comparison after seeing rap fans debate who was better on social media.

to be fair he said he's a better lyricist but that kendrick makes better songs. I agree with him. And I would put F&L and The Cool over any Kendrick album

He's completely right on what his definition of lyricist is. He explained his reasoning & I agree.

What I don't agree with is just using technical ability as a definition for lyricist.

Lupe I think goes over the top nowadays with the lyrics s--- that it takes away from the actual music, just like Eminem. But his first two albums are all time favorites of mine. And I actually really f--- with his pop rap stuff that most people aren’t a fan of. At least people on the internet

Why are people who aren't Black so threatened by people affirming their blackness successfully? And don't get all profanely defensive. Someone please come with an answer that I can comprehend and not be conflicted by.

Idk bro all “being a better lyricist but having worse songs” tells me is u put technical complexity over actual soul and heart in your music. This reminds me of a thread I was thinking on making on how Lil Baby’s “Bigger Picture” manages to capture the state of America at the time of release far better than Lupe’s Lasers attempt w “Words I Never Said”. Rappers like Lupe, as much as I love them, use technical skill as a creative crutch and don’t realize that what they’re embracing is what’s weighing them down.

The fact that kendricks lyrics fit more cohesively with the structure and melody of his songs IS good lyrical writing in itself

Cause it's an extremely boring album lol. Nas's new album is about blackness and it's way more replayable. Not sure what you're going on about
