I think it’s fair to say that 1 of the main reasons Detox didn’t drop between 2006-2010 was because most of the rappers he was working with weren’t at the caliber of the music he was attempting to make.

Just look at the reference tracks rappers were ghost writing that leaked - they were so uninspired “I’m Dre, West Coast, Compton, I made the Chronic” etc. You really think Dre was satisfied with that? No chance.

He may have done that in 1999 - but that’s exactly why he wouldn’t do it again.

It doesn't make sense to me though how they always described the album over the years.

I remember DJ Quik saying something like: "Dre's getting piano lessons and is incoporating different symphonies into his songs"
And then at one point, I remember Dre was like: "We got a crazy new thing going with the drums".

And then all we've ever heard sounded either just okay (I Need A Doctor) or like something we've already have heard from Dre

(Kush sounded 2001-esque and The Pyscho for an example was kiiinda like the Outta Control Remix)

So either Dre lost touch with reality after all those years recording, or those 1 million songs were just whack.

Version with "Young World" and "s--- Popped Off" was probably it, to be honest. Too bad this n----- Dre think he a perfectionist. Lol. That's just selfishness and lunacy at that point. n----- made two albums of his own, touched a few other rapper's careers, then dipped. I'm mad. Kanye did wayyyyyyy more. Fight me on that. And Dilla better than him anyway. Meh.

Different eras of it. So you can’t put everything they said as mentioning 2011 Detox, which was the worst one of the bunch.

I remember an article describing the current Detox at the time being similar to a movie, like a score with the verses depicting stories at the same time - I would’ve loved to hear that version.

INAD & Kush leaked & they decided to go ahead with their releases. I don’t think there was ever any intention of releasing them before that - they weren’t even produced by Dre.

Plus a few months after their single releases, they confirmed that they weren’t on the album itself, only promo singles. There’s no way Dre of all people is putting an Alex Da Kid drum kit mixed underwater on his solo album, especially his last.

But like @Guma said - different eras. It shocks me that people can’t differentiate the leaks from different eras.

There’s probably only Die Hard & Young World out of all the leaks that are in like the top 100 in Dre’s vault. Under Pressure was probably up there but that was completely barebones when it leaked.

Nah, he was selling exactly this, cause he thought it wasn't leaked before. So Detox version that was already leaked by Bishop or someone else. I told him it's already out that's why it's no longer on his site. Bishop uploaded it alongside The Reformation version that is 4 minutes long a decade ago lol.

I don't understand the Psycho and Outta Control Remix comparison. Outta Control Remix has always been one of his best beats in my eyes.

Your post reminded me of a Scott Storch interview in like 2003 where he called Detox "the most advanced rap album of all-time" and then used Obie Trice's Oh as an example. He said that was a Detox throwaway but they were all like that in the sense that every beat had a different instrumental for each verse.

And I'm not talking about beat switches which I hate btw.

I love s--- like that where the instrumental progresses with each verse. like how Gone switches up for each artist.

Dre definitely gave some Detox contender production to the stars like 50 Cent’s GRODT, Obie’s Cheers & Busta’s TBB

This was also a Detox track originally:

    One of my favourite tracks.

I've made a mistake, I actually meant the regular version, not the remix. (How the f--- did that happen..)
I still stand by my point though. Just notice the bounce, claps and melodies:

There's a little less bass in The Psycho, plus the melody is simpler. Other than that, I don't really see a BIG difference.

I can go on and point out that this beat produced by Dre also follows a similar pattern:
