Or at least my favourite. The amount of careers kickstarted or inspired from the first Mobb deep album ALONE should put him up there in your personal 10. Forreal, HNIC does not get spoken about enough, let alone return of the Mac. He put a lot of people on to wild Illuminati s--- aswell. RIP to your favourite rappers favourite rapper. A master of his craft. A king.

Been in a mobb deep mood recently and I just loaded up all his solo albums on my phone cuz they're not on streaming. Peak Prodigy is easily up there with Jay, BIG, Ghostface, etc.

Also: if you've never read his memoir, it's easily the best music memoir I've ever read.

Yo this is insane!!! That was a really good question. What was the scenario? Uni class or something?

it pains me to know this man isn’t with us. He’s a smart man and impeccable talent who lived a hard life through a lot of physical and mental pain. I wish I could’ve seen him before he passed

Dude I just realized this was like 18 months before he passed. Crazy.

Ummm sooo iirc MIT had this hip hop series they were starting and they invited local writers to do a q&a before the talk so I got to go. Like I remember the first one was killer mike u go u get some one on one ish before they speak before the crowd.

Oh 100%. The infamous is one of the most important albums in raps history. Even when P started to slow down a bit he was still better than most guys out.
Checked the library and they don’t have his memoir so I’m going to order it. Didn’t even know it existed so good looks on that. They do have a novel written by him so maybe I’ll read that while I’m waiting for the memoir to arrive. Could be fine

    H.N.I.C.

Prodigy and Mobb Deep’s impact on New York rap in the 90s, and to a larger extent the entire culture since so much of the 90s was based in NY, cannot be understated. Legends. RIP to a trailblazer.

Can’t believe they recorded their first album when they were like 18 years old. And to see it have the impact it had on the game at that time was really incredible.

I remember copping either the h--- on Earth or The Infamous CD and back in those days, only a few really popular artists released CD’s that had “enhanced features” or some marketing bs like that. Toss that b---- into your computer disc drive and boot it up. If I remember correctly it brought you to a screen that was like a jail cell or something like that. And you could watch a couple mobb deep videos, which were crazy pixelated haha. You could barely make out what was happening. If you were lucky enough to have a computer in those days, it was most likely a piece of s---. The videos would stutter and you’d hear the disc drive spinning like crazy, almost wheezing. You could also view some photos, I think you could see a few upcoming releases from the label, I think it had a screensaver too, and you could get the label’s mailing address. It was really corny for today’s standards but I remember being a kid loving that s--- haha.

Amazing. I miss those days. It formed connections to the artists and the fans. Before the internet you couldn’t just search that s--- up. I’m jealous, I was born in 96 so Mobb deep has pretty much been a part of my life since birth.
Finishing up an infamous play through right now, party over pumping in the headphones

I followed West Coast hip-hop for all of my music listening life. Which has been great! But it's meant that I haven't given enough time to the greats such as this. I think it's about time I dive into into Mob Deep and their solos. Havoc had a good verse on Problem's latest album which was a nice surprise.

Skinny chicks are in. Tighter buttholes usually. Heroin here and there is ok, just not excessive.

That piano loop will never get old. We used to smoke blunts and listen to that s--- d--- near on repeat haha. Ahhh the good old 90s was such a simple time lol

Actually this might have come out after the 90s. f--- it. It was close enough. Couldn’t have been much later than 2000-2001 because I remember getting high before school to this song.
