Oct 2, 2020he had a very limited skillset and he pushed it to its limits for a few years. It was a really good run. But it's not surprising he ran out of steam
it didn't help that he's so financially focused that he was always chasing a hit. Stacking your albums with songs like Amusement Park and So Amazing and Candy Shop and whatever other forgettable rehashes of old hits I'm forgetting ensures that you're going to be stuck with filler. If he had just loosened up and made good music (rather than the music he thought everyone wanted to hear) he probably could've gotten more mileage out of his rap career

I feel like his style and sound just don't mesh as well as they used to. Like his GRODT/Massacre days he LOOKED hungry, you know?
Now he has that rich/chubby/buff style but his music doesn't have that rich vibe that you get from Jay-Z and Rick Ross so his whole image just sort of fell into mediocrity.
I have a similar feeling about Busta Rhymes. Even Eminem to an extent (it's just not the same when you rap about murdering people with that beard)DKC, Ordinary Joel, Fire Squad and 5 others like this. -

Have no idea how some of you think Massacre is better than Curtis. Curtis is great, way better. HIs main problem (if you consider it a problem) was that he gave most of his best music away for free. Mixtape 50 was always the best 50DKC, Ordinary Joel, Lucy and 2 others like this. -

I was listening to Animal Ambition and it got me thinking how 50 Cent went from being heard in almost every household to not very relevant anymore. He hasn't dropped an album since 2014 but aside from the hardcore fans that album didn't really get much buzz at all. And it's not a bad album.
The main reason I think guys like Kanye or Eminem have managed to stay relevant in this day and age is because their music keeps evolving and is different from one album to another. You listen to one album then go to another and they don't sound anything alike.
50 has pretty much stuck to the same style of music throughout his career and I don't think that style aged very well.
We could argue that the quality of the music is not as good as it once was but I don't think that's the sole reason. He still drops quality stuff. I think the fact that he hasn't changed his recipe over the years is a major reason.

It’s already been addressed earlier itt, his lack of hunger is so evident in his cadences, that tenacity used to be what made Fif so captivating in the beginning. Plus a general lack of direction has made some parts of the music this decade seem a bit stale?
But I’m tired of beating the dead horse, honestly there’s been a number songs that tapped into his capabilities. I’m The Man, his feature on YG’s I Wanna Benz to name a few. He’s always been a great storyteller, this was a nice throwback to his mixtape sound & stylistic riots, wish he stuck to doing more stuff like it:

Nah Fifty’s the man, “still think I’m nothing” and “crazy” where both really good. Fifty’s also one of those artist that had a huge amount of his catalog just forgotten about, shame there’s a lot of good Fifty out there that people just forgot because it’s not on streaming.hargydon, Ordinary Joel, BIGFOOT and 1 other person like this. -

He can still put together a hit if he wants to. It sucks that he has stopped caring about music.

Solid points. If he had dropped singles like I'm The Man or We Up in place of the trash you mentioned he'd be much more respected at least. I still think his music career would ultimately be over though because of his decision to goto war with Jimmy Iovine.Ordinary Joel, BIGFOOT, Wreckless and 1 other person like this. -

I thought Curtis was a good album. Not on the same level as GRODT and The Massacre obviously, but a good album on it's own.
True that everything after The Massacre is considerably weaker but I think a song like Too Rich for the b---- would have been a club hit 15 years ago.
The lack of evolution in his music has played a big part imo. But there's no denying the quality is not the same anymore.n9ne, Ordinary Joel, BIGFOOT and 1 other person like this. -
