also, i'd rather this not be like most threads where everyone wants to have a pissing contest but rather some civil discourse. we have all became way too divided as it is in the US, so i'd rather not add to the division. -

We banned guns in the UK 20 some years ago. Now we just get knife and acid attacks.
Of course it's not impossible to get a gun if you know where to look. But it makes it hard and stops the idiotic people who only need to scratch the surface to but one.
So yes, I'm fully against guns. They don't protect you, the don't make you big. They just bring unnecessary pain to the country you live in.Reed Richards, Ordinary Joel, zukayoku and 3 others like this. -

I’m 100% pro gun. I go to the range all the time with my uncle. We mostly s---t his dad’s 357. It’s fun as h---. I’m not a gun fanatic though. I know little about them and choose not to own one even though I live in Texas where basically everyone has one.
I fully support requiring background checks for trade show and private gun sales.
I also think every shell casing should be serialized so if cops find them at a scene, they have a lead on the shooter. They should be able to trace it back to the manufacturer and then ultimately point of sale.
I support these 2 issues but they’re not something I stress over. I think there are way more important issues to work out. But if there was ever reasonable legislation to implement these correctly then I would support them.Last edited: Nov 5, 2020skip, lil uzi vert stan, Ordinary Joel and 3 others like this. -

Fun fact: NRA lobbied Ronald Reagan to end Open Carry in CA in 1967 because the Black Panthers were exercising their 2nd Amendment rights.Ordinary Joel, Sign Language, skip and 2 others like this. -

idk why u think this matters. like i get ur point re: minorities and the police, but outside these hyper localized instances - which tbh , again, is the republican argument around the right to bear arms, lets give teachers guns fuckit - in the grand scheme it wont affect or alter the power dynamic in this country. like MAGA thinks bc they bring military weaponry to rallies theyre making some point about their sovereignty. in any real context, it doesnt change anything and in fact contributes to a worse sicker public health discourse. so the opposite of what ur suggesting lol
im with u. i think the whole argument is so pathological and weirdly rhetorical and warped. not saying ,practically, Ban All Guns (though id tbh support progressives if they made that their cause célèbre instead of equally catchy Defund the Police)..... but it should be as hard to access a gun as it is to, say, get a drivers license, or take out a mortgage. or get an abortion.skip, Ordinary Joel, reservoirGod and 1 other person like this. -

I grew up in a subsistence lifestyle and have been hunting with guns since I was 6 years ago.

I am very pro gun. Background checks and mental health evaluations need to be required for all gun purchases. Banning bump stocks was a great move. Law-abiding citizens should absolutely have the right to defend themselves and their family. A close friend of mine likely wouldn’t be alive today if he didn’t use a gun in self-defense.
Also, f--- the NRA. Philando Castile was killed for legally carrying a firearm, and they were silent. “Protecting gun rights for all Americans!” my a---.skip, RetiredAccount, Ordinary Joel and 1 other person like this. -

Think the gun laws should be far stricter. So we see far less mass shootouts from some deranged weirdo'sDKC, Ordinary Joel, RG9 and 1 other person like this. -

I could buy a Gun on the street when I was 11. It’s not hard to get them and although I think background checks and mental health checks should absolutely be required, I have little faith in that stopping someone who wants to commit murder or the like to be able to do so.skip, Ordinary Joel and RetiredAccount like this.
