Nov 14, 2020 Westside Gunn has officially left Shady Records. During a recent appearance on The Joe Budden Podcast, he told Budden, Mal and Rory, the Griselda member was asked what his current label situation entailed and Westside confirmed what seemed to be the inevitable — he did, in fact, part ways with the Eminem-helmed imprint. “Um, I’m off Shady,” he says matter-of-factly. “I’m off Shady. I’m actually a free agent. It feels great. Who Made The Sunshine was it. I already spoke to Paul [Rosenberg]. Everything’s good. Like, everything’s signed, sealed and delivered I have my paperwork, like I’m off Shady. “I’m one of those type of dudes I’m not no public talkin’ n-gga. That’s just how I move. It’s like sayin’ me and Benny or me and Conway or Conway and Benny or whoever, we might have a disagreement, but the world will never know. We still gonna be brothers and cousins. It’s the same way even with business, because at the end of the day, this a big world. Even if somebody else is a sucka, I’m never gonna play that sucka role.” Westside has made it clear on numerous occasions he was dissatisfied with the way Shady Records handled his album promo. And like he eluded to Budden and the crew, his latest album Who Made The Sunshine was where he drew the line. Last month, Eminem sent out a tweet promoting The Alchemist’s new album The Food Villain, but Griselda fans were quick to point out that’s more than Slim Shady did for Westside and Who Made The Sunshine. The Buffalo-bred rap force took note of one of the comment and replied with three laughing emojis and three “sssh” emojis, suggesting he agreed with the assessment but couldn’t talk about it. He also appeared to throw some salt in Shady Records’ direction after Griselda was nominated for a 2020 BET Award over the summer, tweeting, “I wonder do @ShadyRecords know we’re nominated for a BET AWARD tonight.”
Nov 14, 2020 No surprise here, expect all current artists to leave soon they might as well shut down the label, Em and Paul don’t care...they have enough money...Em will work with anyone doesn’t need to be a label thing...and focus on his own stuff
Nov 14, 2020 Griselda were a weird fit for Shady in the first place, not sure how either party thought it'd work out
Nov 14, 2020 Like I already said, wasn’t this clear from the beginning? The contract said one album for Westside, Conway and one group album
Nov 14, 2020 I think if you sign with Shady, the idea is you get A bunch of Em involvement + maybe Dre like back in the day with Obie, d12 and obv 50...but that era is gone...close the label,..artists please don’t sign...Em and Paul do not care If you can get a single with Eminem for views + produced track is all you can ask for on this era of Shady but you barely get that
Nov 14, 2020 i think em shoudl sign a young dude i think boogie is cool but nont really what people are after they want trap songs like da baby if you really want it to play on the radio thats the route you gotta go i did see this happenign i think boogie said hes got another album coming
Nov 14, 2020 What did Budden say on his podcast a couple of years ago? Eminem doesn’t know how to run a label, he signs artists to be his muses and he’s wasting Griselda’s time. Westside comes to Budden’s podcast to officially announce he’s left Shady. Budden was right all along. Are you in them shoes yet?! I knew the s--- was a wash from the beginning but what really made me shake my head was seeing Westside recording footage of Eminem performing live from the middle of the crowd. Westside is your new artist, let him spit something for the crowd. Talk about him, get him on your albums. Em has always been a horrible label exec.
Nov 14, 2020 i guess nobody ever watches alot of their interviews, their deal has always been a distribution deal with shady. one conway, one WSG, and one group record lol. Their deal gave them the ability to still release projects through their Griselda records label, and gave them the Major label distribution for one solo each and the group record. Now of course we know how it goes with shady records but it isnt like they just up and left randomly. I dont think EM really does much buisness wise with the label, i think its just more creatively, but now he has artist he doesnt mesh well with creatively so i think its hard for him to step in. But rarely does signing to an artist work out well. IDK why anyone would want to sign to an active artist, Hard for them to focus on themselves at the same time as the person they signed. Sure its worked here and there but overall not so much.....Jay, EM, 50, Kanye, Tech, Cole, Drake all have labels with guys who dont get that "push" or live in the shadow or have a history with things not working out for artist.
Nov 14, 2020 If you sign to a mainstream label, you get mainstream fans, and they also expect mainstream sales. And these guys not it.
Nov 15, 2020 Now might as well shut down the hellhole of hip hop called Shady Records and let Eminem go independent.
Nov 15, 2020 Boogie is talented but Griselda sucks. The only good thing about them is the production (Alchemist, Daringer and Beat Butcha beats). If the only good thing about you is the production, well... you should retire.
