I was in high school at the time and believe me he was that famous at the time. People were dying their hair blonde all over the place trying to look like him.

I know it's hard to believe he was that famous that early but it wasn't just cuz of SSLP, it was also from his contributions to Chronic 2001 (including Forgot About Dre), and a ton of underground songs and features that he released in 1999-00 (with D12, Bad Meets Evil, and solo). That's why he was able to sell 1.7 million copies in his first week with MMLP (which was long before the Stan single).

But I'll admit his peak of fame, popularity, success, and skill was in Fall 2002 when 8 Mile released. He shut down Times Square with a single appearance.

^He probably thought he was just getting started. Five years later he was hiding in his mansion. Fat, alone, divorced, unable to write a basic verse, and overdosing on pain killers.

r-----ed discussion. It's a fictional song. His level of fame is 100% irrelevant. Besides, you don't need to be an absolute superstar to attract stalking weirdo's.
