    I went to a kid rock concert in 2018 (they were free from a family friend and hey, devil without a cause was a dope album). And prices there for even a s-----y beer like coors light was like $20-25 smh

    That's gonna be a YUGE yay for me dawg.

    d--- is his best album to me and it's honestly not that close. I think he hit the sweet spot in balancing higher concepts + bangers without getting too contrived. d--- got better with each listen for me, which was the exact opposite as TPAB. To me this album was the definitive proof of Kendrick being a true auteur (a la Outkast, Kanye, Frank Ocean, etc) in terms of making something vastly different with each album. He retains what makes him great as a lyricist while also experimenting with more melodic stuff, unique flows, and beats we probably wouldn't hav heard him rap over in 2012 or even 2015.

    GKMC will always have a special place in my heart, but the album peters out so significantly at Dying of Thirst --> Real --> Compton. Honestly when I listen to it I replace those last three with Cartoons & Cereal, The Heart Pt. 3, and The Recipe. I also never understood why people pretend this is a super complex album. It's not, but that doesn't matter—it's a straight-forward narrative told very well for the most part.

    Most of yall know the process I went thru with TPAB lol, but imo it's an ambitious (overly, but also admirably so) album that's super intriguing your first few listens because there's so much going on, but the cracks begin to show fast. It's so, so long for no reason with a concept that doesn't really make sense. There's a good 50 minute album in there, but as it stands it's too messy.

    section.80 is still my favorite Kendrick album deep down because there's something so endearing about young Kendrick's voice on here (as well as OD and even KLEP) even though he progressed as a rapper so much after that. This also paints a more abstract narrative that wasn't quite there, but it's also significantly shorter than TPAB and less ambitious/messy, so the flaws aren't as blatant.
