Why are producers also credited under songwriters ...............

    They wrote the music. Songwriting isn't Lyricwriting.

    Not all artists do this. But it’s a very nice gesture to get the producer in on royalties.

    What others said...plus producers that are actually in the studio producing for an artist usually make recommendations here and there which would be considered writing.
