Jun 4, 2016 My second favourite Eminem album behind TES. What I like about this album is the unpolished nature of his song making. He shows many cliches consistent with most battle rapper turned studio rappers but he uses them to his advantage and it adds a certain realness - almost naivety - to the sound. Unfortunately for Em, he made music that was current at the time and both SSLP and MMLP sound dated now because of this. With that said, is still rate this album 8/10
Jun 4, 2016 See I don't get that at all-- to me it has always sounded like the worst aging old Eminem project. Every instrumental and even his mannerisms on the album have this vintage dust fallen over them. And as far as albums sounding blatantly old without that being a drawback at all I see it like this...there are other albums from 1999ish that make SSLP sound old in comparison. That's the big difference. That on top of Eminem's tick of including pop culture references is what ultimately makes us feel like this album has aged badly. That being said I do find this album the peak of Eminem's sinister wittiness that made him so d--- interesting. It's aptly titled Slim Shady because there were never any other clear-cut renditions of this alter ego done to perfection like this. Just really fun to listen to and see all the ways he uses irony and subtle references/humor to make you get a kick out of his lyrics. Lot of talent being displayed on this album that often takes a back seat to casuals and fans alike behind his more grand, deliberate and straightforward serious songs...and that is a shame. 8/10 Has one of my favorite songs ever, the incredible Rock Bottom.
Jun 4, 2016 @BigCountry it would be cool to see everyones opinion on a Ghostface project sometime in the future
Jun 4, 2016 No it doesn't? to say the topic inherently lower's the quality is bs Despite you actually being impressed you still made some room in your mind for those biases eh
Jun 4, 2016 One of the only Em albums I still listen to. Besides the pointless skits, it's a decent album front to back. Some lines on here are hilarious. 7/10
Jun 5, 2016 I always felt it was it was overrated compared to his next two records. I can't stand the humor at times either. The production was OK. His lyrical ability is great. He also sounds a bit.....nasal? At some points. I also feel that the song concepts seem a bit passive and amateurish but what do you expect in a dude who just started to get his feet wet in the game. But I do have to say, My Name Is, Role Model and Guilty Conscience are good. This seems like a demo tape compared to MMLP and TES. (Both 10/10) 6/10
Jun 6, 2016 Gotta give it an 8/10 Can't rate it higher because I find it difficult to listen to nowadays and I can't rate it any lower because this was a classic album of its time. And just like the majority of the people here I was quite an Eminem fan growing up, I didn't really know any other artists. I was more into MMLP, TES and Encore than this album because it was a bit before my time, however I understand how important this album was. I still rate songs like Role Model, My Name is and Guilty Conscience, love ya Slim.
Jun 6, 2016 what im saying is that the topic doesn't affect the skill which is what it sounded like you were saying
Jun 6, 2016 amazing setoff for Em's career, i like every song, they all goatly showcase Em's standout style. He was a rookie tho & sometimes it showed, feels like he didn't fully master vocal rhythm/sync quite yet, so sometimes he would sound battle rappy & offbeat, definitely shows that there was room for some improvement. Thats literally the only negative that comes to mind about this album. & even then the smooth & effortless feel behind his verses kinda obscures that flaw so theres that. for what it is, a debut, & a groundbreaking one at that, its puuuurty f---in good great. 8/10
Jun 6, 2016 Hasn't aged as well as MMLP or TES but it's a fun listen with some nostalgic moments for Chad. Role Model and My Name is are classics. C-Wizzy wants to give it at 9, but it's an 8.
Jun 6, 2016 Based upon 24 ratings, SXN80 gives The Slim Shady LP a 7.9. @RateThisAlbum at Soldier's request... [6/6/16] Kevin Gates - Luca Brasi 2 [2014]
Jun 6, 2016 This album got me into gates, alot of his biggest singles are on this (out the mud, john gotti, i dont get tired) overall it's not the most cohesive project but it's still a solid tape. Almost every song is a b-----r, the production is great and he rapped his a--- off on this tape. I'd say after Islah this is his most accessible project to date. 8.5/10
Jun 6, 2016 10/10 There's literally not a single bad song. Even the production is on point. Listened to it earlier and wow. Gates can't do any wrong lmao.
