Feb 28, 2021 The great Jimmy Smith once said “Only real music is gonna last, All that other bs is here today and gone tomorrow.” Beautiful. Really gets you thinking. We’ve come a long way since the first time it was said on wax. h---, we’ve even come a long way from when Drake sampled it. We’re in a completely different climate right now. Between streaming, a lack of live performances and the internet, rappers are falling off just as fast as they blew up. There’s so many flashes in the pan it’s hard to tell what’s going to stick and what’s not. Is Pooh Shiesty truly next up? Has Lil Baby paved himself a comfy road to success? Will any of these flavour of the week emo rappers ever be able to get something that sticks as hard as peep? Don’t forget to like and subscribe and leave your comments below please and thanks
Feb 28, 2021 Said this the other day (or something along these lines) but it’s crazy how most of the class of 2016 have cemented themselves as legends both individually and as a group (Carti included). These guys will forever be legends and I don’t want to hear anything otherwise thank you and goodnight
Feb 28, 2021 Pop was obviously on his way to be around for a long time and had real star power. The songs on the posthumous are absolute smackeroonis
Feb 28, 2021 Idk if you’re asking for strictly hip hop, but I think Billie Eilish is gonna be around for the rest of her life. Rap wise I think Kendrick is a pretty safe bet.
Mar 1, 2021 Crazy how hard that question is. Did people who experienced rap in the late 90s/early 2000s to the fullest knew that Jay Z will be timeless? What was the year, Jay was officially considered a legend? Would really like to know. To answer your question: Kendrick, Drake and Travis are save bets but they've been around for a while. For newer rappers I honestly don't know. Hip Hop's changing way too fast
Mar 1, 2021 How do you feel about the baby’s? I think if anyone has a chance to become the next real rap superstar it’s one of these two, especially considering Da Baby is getting real radio play on pop songs and Lil Baby is coming off of a critically acclaimed album. But like you said, it’s hard to say
Mar 1, 2021 I see big potential in Lil Baby since he already had a good 2 year run but I think he's not quite there yet. DaBaby's music is getting dull after a while. He can rap but he's lacking some variety and therefore won't last long. My criteria is always: Who's the first artist that would come to a non Hip Hop listeners mind when you mention Hip Hop. If Pop Smoke would still live, he would be the one, no doubt for me.
Mar 1, 2021 idk how you can say that confidently about Billie, pop music had one of the hardest and fastest paradigm shifts of any genre ever after Lorde came out and could easily shift again, as it's done many times before. I'm sure people thought back in the early oughts that Mariah Carey and J Lo would be relevant in twenty years and i know for certain ten years ago that predicting the downfall of the pop star (shoutout Katy Perry) would have sounded crazy.
Mar 1, 2021 21 Savage fr. He's improved so much I don't see him falling off soon. I'd add uzi and carti with him too. I think that the personalities they portray are really what make their music so enjoyable
Mar 1, 2021 i remember when he was just, like, a rapper. hard knock life, trl, heartbreaker, that era jay. one of many kind of thing. trying to think when he broke away.......... probably when he got w beyonce and 'retired' and did that album w linkin park. 99 problems may be the exact moment actually
Mar 1, 2021 None of those artists have fans like Eilish. She has a legitimate army of stans. Like the most I’ve ever seen lol. She’s Kind of on the way to being the face of gen z musically. She’s also like 18 and has already been around for a few years. I’m thinking of her more along the lines of Rihanna; obv not stylistically, but longevity wise. I can also see a world where Billie gets more and more hip hop influenced as she gets older, standing the test of time. I don’t even know if I could name more than one song, but I just really think she’s gonna be the biggest artist in the world.
