Mar 22, 2021Welcome to OPUS, a weekly thread I’ll be keeping up with where every Monday, an artist will be chose and we vote on what their best (or our favourite) album is by said person. Arguing is encouraged, but keep it about the music folks. Poll will open on Monday, and close on Friday. I’ll continue to log the winning albums and make a de facto list of S80 favourite albums. If you have any recommendations on artists we should do in the future, s---t me a DM. Let’s go

We’re back for week 3 folks, and you know what it is. Last weeks poll did not go the way I thought it would, with Daytona getting 2/3rd of the votes (I still disagree and you guys are wrong, MNIMN is better you fools). Anyway, it’s a new week with a new artist.
DMX was requested by one of our fine users a while back when I was still brainstorming this thread and he was planned for this week even before the terrible, terrible news. It’s only fitting we get here together and respect a legend and decide what sxn 80s favourite album from X is. It’s hard for me to say and I’m going to do a full relisten before casting my vote, as usual. Let’s go

Teflon Don is pretty decisively his best album imo, but Ross doesn't get enough credit for his consistencySav Stanfield, Ricky, DKC and 3 others like this. -

I figured Ross was a good jump off point for this thread because he’s a great rapper with really good albums but it’s hard to pinpoint his best. Something I forgot before making this thread is how f---ing good if a run Teflon Don>God Forgives>Mastermind is. Goddammit I’m going to have to go back and listen to them all before I cast my vote but I’m really leaning towards God Forgives, I Dont right now. This was peak MMG. Take me backSav Stanfield, Ricky, DKC and 2 others like this. -

Absolute tragedy and one of the biggest what if stories is the flood that damaged RZA's studio which impacted Inspectah Deck's debut. If that didn't happen then I wonder what the original would've sounded like.

Sorry for the late update guys, I threw my back out at work and the pst few days have been a bit s-----y, but we’re back for another one. A special one.
Decided to switch it up a bit for this one. Today we’re gonna vote on our favourite from the first wave of Wu Tang solo albums that came out between the release of 36 Chambers and Wu Tang forever. These are objectively some of the greatest rap albums of all time, so I’m interested to see what everyone’s pick is.
I’ve spent extensive time with each and every one of these albums. I still listen to them religiously. In my opinion, the answer here is obvious. OB4CL is THE greatest album of all time. The purple tape is my bible. Even though it’s such an easy choice for me, I’m still going to say that 4 of these albums are in my top 15, maybe even top 10. This is as good as it gets.

For me, the first THREE are all tied. All amazing and classic, near perfect albums so in order to make a decision I had to look at the package as a whole. In the end, I decided on Flesh Of My Flesh because honestly it’s the best cover of the 3 (if not all time)Sav Stanfield, DKC, Wreckless and 1 other person like this. -

DAYTONA the best & most consistent playthrough no doubt, but it doesn’t have his highest highs, so I’m going for My Name is My Name.Chrollo, Ordinary Joel, Sav Stanfield and 1 other person like this. -

Man I’m gonna have to listen to Daytona again because I must be missing something. Everyone here has such high praise for it. Maybe I was just disappointed with the Wyoming albums I was bitter. I’ll listen tonightChrollo, Ordinary Joel, Sav Stanfield and 1 other person like this. -

Daytona is the clear winner but I've always thought Darkest Before Dawn is massively underrated and I still find myself returning to it often. I remember it dropped right towards the end of the year and was overshadowed by some other huge 2015 albums but Push was on top form, I honestly think I prefer it to everything else he's put out solo (barring Daytona obviously). The title of it is perfect, it feels like a warm up or a precursor to something huge and great, which - looking back now - it was.Ordinary Joel, DKC, Yeez and 1 other person like this. -
