I'm not a dad, but I'm curious about something:

Does your outlook on the world and its future change after having a kid(s)?

For me, as it is right now, I'm counting myself lucky if I can make it through the next ~70 years without encountering any massive wars and/or struggles. I'm white in America so I feel like it's been relatively chill since the 90s.

One of the many reasons why I don't want to have kids is because I feel like life's going to inevitably get more difficult going forward with political divides, inflation, constantly increasing regulations, etc. and I don't really want to put another human being through all that BS. It's not entirely a "the world is s---" outlook, but more of a "I didn't sign up for - at least - 50 years worth of work and taxes...why force somebody else into that?" outlook.

The working/taxes combo is just one example - and I'm even counting myself lucky because I somewhat enjoy my job and don't mind punching into it for 40 hours a week. There's obvious other things like losing loved ones, wars, food/water shortages, an infinite list of other potential stressors.

So just curious if that magically changes at all when the kid shows up or nah?

lol it's definitely one of the more minor ones, but over the course of my lifetime I've gone through quite a bit of paperwork that I didn't particularly enjoy.

Think of how many accounts and passwords and forms and s--- that we've had to deal with that our parents didn't. I'd consider myself somewhat tech-competent, but I'm definitely aware that I'm starting to not keep up as much as I used to.

So take that leap from our parents to us...now imagine another leap of the same size from us to the next generation.

Using the word "regulations" was an odd choice, but I wanted to shorten up something like "bureaucratic requirements", I guess.

I feel you.. i have three kids and my view on the world definately changed once i had a kid. It’s complicated.. because it’s incredible how much you can love them, but i feel what u saying.. future doesnt seem bright unfortunately and it breaks my heart thinking about a future in which they may suffer. I keep thinking ”what the h--- is wrong with us adults? How can we treat eachother and the planet this way?” It’s stressful too cause u want to give them the whole world so u feel like u are never enough, but in reality you are, they dont expect much of you at all, u can play the most simple game in the world and they will love it. i could keep going here forever.

At the stage where little guy is gonna be popping out a tooth at any moment, hitting some more sleep regression like always, needs to start eating solids more, and is going to crawl within a few weeks or months

we got lucky with our dude and his teeth. he popped like 5 within a 2 week period but wasn’t really fussy. now he has 16.

he started daycare this week so that’s been fun tho
