Apr 19, 2015 When asked by a fan about the thinking behind releasing a one-off album that will likely go unheard for nearly one hundred years, RZA compared the singularity of Once Upon A Time in Shaolin to a world renowned piece of fine art. "I’ve released a lot of music and different albums for people to enjoy, or not enjoy," RZA wrote. "And the album you are referring to, Once Upon A Time in Shaolin, is a singular, unique piece of art. And it’s singular. Just as the Mona Lisa." Turning his sights on a younger batch of artists, RZA named Kendrick Lamar as his favorite new artist before rattling off a few others that he's enjoyed recently. "My favorite at the moment is Kendrick Lamar," he said. "I’ve been listening to a lot of Drake,Kanye, Big Sean, as far as Hip Hop is concerned. But I also spend a lot of time listening to the Arctic Monkeys." Full AMA

Nov 25, 2015 Article Source: Pitchfork - http://pitchfork.com/news/62262-wu-...um-once-upon-a-time-in-shaolin-has-been-sold/ By Evan Minsker on November 24, 2015 at 6:42 p.m. EST Somebody dropped "millions" on the sole copy of the Cher-featuring LP Wu-Tang Clan made a one-of-a-kind album called Once Upon a Time in Shaolin. It's encased in an engraved silver and nickel box, it comes with leather-bound liner notes, and it features Cher. As Forbes reports, it has now been sold. The online auction house Paddle8 confirmed the album's sale, but would not disclose details about when it was sold, who it was sold to, how much it sold for, or whether or not the album will be available to hear on a tour of galleries or museums. Update (11/24, 8:24 p.m.): More details have emerged—Forbes reports that the American buyer acquired the album for "millions". It was reported that Once Upon a Time in Shaolin wouldn't be made available for a wide release for at least 88 years. Method Man was told about this in an interview and responded, "That s--- is f---in' stupid." He later walked back those comments, but remained critical of Shaolin's producers, RZA and Cilvaringz.
