Idk, I'm not in the Dipset fanclub. Their little cult following tends to overrate them. Lots of NY acts were just as good in the 2000s without the zany fashion/personalities and meme potential. @WPG

Big L recycled more than Captain Planet.

ohh ok my fault, well there hasn't been many crews in the East that made an impact like Dipset, Rocafella Ruff Ryders or G-Unit. i've listened to those 4 more than i did with Dipset. those are the only crews that come to my mind when the East Coast is mentioned.

I've seen a couple instances of hyperbole regarding the Diplomat's legacy but I can't fully agree with this. They were on a consistently good run and had very colorful personalities behind the mic, obviously they were backed by some of the finest instrumentals I've ever heard...I have a ton of nostalgia of them too, it felt like everyone was bumping their music everywhere you looked up here in NY.

50 had a bigger impact on ny than cam ever did. Cam also doesn't have the better discography (mixtapes/albums)

how about Wu-Tang? they might be a little more comparable since there more of a collective rather than a bunch of solo acts.

50 had a much bigger impact on rap at a national level. new york is a toss-up, and that's being generous to 50.

i think it's pretty egregious to say that 50, he of curtis-massacre-self destruct fame, is behind the guy with three masterpieces. have you really combed through cam's catalog?

oh absolutely, diplomatic immunity is not 36 chambers. i was just going off the time period you specified.

but yea you are right about their influence, going back to the music they made something original that most haven't made. they included soul samples and alot of that braggadociousness to their albums. i remember when they were in their prime everybody was into their fashion and what they brought to the coast. Cam had people wearing pink furs and getting pink covers for their nextels lol.

50 was more international than just being on the East, it feels like he didn't care much about the East Coast since he dissed nearly everyone out here just to keep afloat. it sure did backfire on him.

growing up in queens and brooklyn 50's impact on new york was just as huge, from pioneering the mixtape era to dropping 2 classic albums, the city was his for that stretch even with jay afloat. Jay actually fell back for a while during that time period for that reason. You cant pin point a time in hip hop where cam alone was doing something along those lines without dipset attached to him. Obviously 50's success was global but for you to say he didn't have that big of an impact in NY is hilarious. I witnessed it first hand.
