Therapy followed by the right SSRI.

I was diagnosed with PTSD, generalized anxiety disorder, and adolescent depression as a teen. Found my father dead after years of substance abuse. I tried to fight it on my own without the help of doctors, medical professionals, etc. until I couldn’t go a single day in public without a panic attack.

Eventually I got tired of living like that and decided to seek professional help. I saw a therapist twice a week for a year+ and was prescribed Sertraline, with my dose increasing up to 150mg. That was 7 or 8 years ago. Still taking the sertraline but my life is infinitely better. I’m happy and healthy.

Hello All, I hope everyone is doing better then I am currently. listen I'm not one for making countless threads, I deal with a lot of Anxiety from my experiences in the military, that being said since my combat experience I tend to not be able to go shop with my wife and daughter always looking over my shoulder and getting tunnel vision. this leads to anger outbursts.

I'm not looking for sympathy, I'm looking for some others techniques to deal with stress or anxiety. help is appreciated.

    This 100%.

i hope to Christ that the military pays for your s--- and I'm sure the VA hospital has psyches and therapists that specialize in military-related PTSD. If not, I've posted this here a few times but OpenPath is basically a database of therapists that will take patients for $30-$60 a session depending on income (like semi-pro bono work basically): https://openpathcollective.org/

I can vouch for openpath 100% I've found therapists in two diff states using it. Dunno if you've ever been to a therapist but if you haven't let me know if you want any tips.

As for SSRIs I personally did not like the way they made me feel and ended up on Wellbutrin which I like way more. But with antidepressant everyone's body chemistry is different so what didn't work for me may work for you and Lasik and vice-versa.

Hello, i appreciate all the tips and ideas for help, i have been put on some very high medication's from my doctor. its not that great, lots of crazy side effects, i totally snapped on a old lady in Costco the other day while profusely sweating and being jittery and constantly looking at my surroundings. since then i have stopped taking these pills. i have been enjoying walks outside with my wife and daughter since Minnesota finally decided to warm up. and i have been focusing on school work and audio production recently. i do not own a gun, if i could i would but my therapist is strongly advising me not to since my PTSD and other mental illnesses bring my emotions on a very strong roller-coaster ride of great highs and very terrible lows.
again thank you for the help.
    you all are very appreciated.

He's right though. Hunting or going to the shooting range can be one of the best ways to relax your body. The rush of adrenaline always kills any anxiety I have. Also helps mental focus which leads to better thoughts.

At least will work better than going grocery shopping.

Keep a gun tucked in your right or left side, whichever handed you are for a quicker draw. It’ll give you a boost of confidence and observe any shady moves someone may be up to. Probably a benzo script if you have legit panic attacks. You’re wasting time with SSRI’s, they don’t help a bad condition. It’s more for placebo effects.

Why not keep a gun on both hips and take lithium?

    Become an instacart shopper.

It will normalize the grocery store for you... while distracting you as you follow the apps instructions so your mind doesn't have time to wonder and think bad things. Plus, it's productive so it gives you a sense of purpose.
