Sep 20, 2022...is so stupid.
Em's view that people don't like Revival because they pre-judged via the tracklist is so deluded. He still hasn't reconciled the reasons why people don't like it. People dislike it because it's contrived, confused pop rap trash with 10,000 features and some of his worst production and writing. If something's good it's good so even though people did pre judge via the tracklist, if you hear it and it's good then you're just like 'oh s--- it's actually good'.

I don't know what he was thinking during the work on Revival, but his logic is flawed nowadays.
In that new XXL article he said that he'd rather show the best rapping skills instead of making good albums. Well, then may be you shouldn't be offended when people or critics say that you release trash. Such approach makes all of his conflicts with critics artificial and empty.ItsPwizz, Person on the Interwebs, jankland and 10 others like this. -

yeah people do but if it's good it's good. His idea that people wouldn't admit it's good 'because they don't wanna be wrong' is so stupid lmao. Like, as fans we wanna like his s---. So even if we initially were like 'this is gonna s---' if it didn't... we'd be pleasently surprised, we'd be like 'yoo, I thought this s--- was s--- but it's actually fire', he's in denial
He also underestimates his audience. I'm listening to him talk now on the pod and about Revival and he's like 'people think I'm rhyming bat n cat' it's like... no we don't lmao. We get it. We hear the sylablle rhyming, we get the wordplay. He underestimates us so much.Person on the Interwebs, NotSoSlimFranky, Ripper Roo and 7 others like this. -

And that's exactly why he hasn't put out a great album since Relapse.
Relapse was him taking on a persona and writing as that personal to make a cohesive album.
Ironically, Relapse is some of his best rapping he's ever had even though he was trying to make a good album.
It really sucks people s--- on the accent because ever since then, he went pop and became everything he hated in his early years.Marshall III, BelieveInMe, Ids5621 and 4 others like this.Nov 18, 2025(This ad goes away when signing up) -

But bro... rapping isn't that hard. Making great art is. Once you get the knack... and that's all it is, is a knack, of putting sylablles together like 'high pie, I might fly, why die... like, the s--- is easy. That's not impressive. And Em underestimates his fans, he thinks we don't get what he's doing, it's like... bro, we do... we just want you to make great art again.BelieveInMe, TheRealEbonIvore, jankland and 4 others like this. -

Agree with all that except... the writing; a lot of the writing was great but it was SOOOO chock full with puns, and such awful puns more than ever. Like for example... 'Like Home' or w.e that Trump anthem - so, okay, he's tryna make a serious political point right... and yet... he f---ing... in a very serious tone contrives about 85 sentences to get to 1 pun of 'ate of / adolf hitler', im like... bro... how tone deaf and autism can you bejankland, Ripper Roo, D12Shady and 3 others like this. -

Agreed to a certain extent. He is so far off the mark of why people didn't like it.
I disagree with your comment about his writing though. His writing and verse structure were great. It was the production, the over saturated pop features, the mess of cohesion and the promo it got that ruined it.ItsPwizz, BelieveInMe, NotSoSlimFranky and 3 others like this. -

Yeah, I mean he's always said political stuff, but I think you right.
All the Revival drug adverts were dropped. Then the cover had him draped in an American flag. You can't tell me that was the plan the whole time.accountno24572, D12Shady, NotSoSlimFranky and 1 other person like this. -

I have a theory about this. They drastically changed the album, including much of the tracklist, because of the BET cypher with Em dissing Trump. That cypher was one of the most popular things Em had done in a while, and it came out between the rollout for Revival starting, and when the album actually came out. They saw how popular the cypher was, assumed people wanted Em to talk about politics, figured they had enough material to scrape together a "political" album, and went for it. The original drug-themed rollout suggests the album would've been a more fun Slim Shady type album -- maybe songs like Chloraseptic and Framed would've been on that album. But the other really obvious piece of evidence is that Revival, in its actual released form, isn't really that political. It has Like Home, a rushed anti-Trump anthem, Untouchable, and Nowhere Fast. Other than that, the most you get are a few throwaway lines about Trump on Framed and Heat, and a few references to the working class/minimum wage on Believe and Offended, all of which could've easily been added to those songs in the eleventh hour, or otherwise happened to be there and helped cobble together a vaguely political album. Beyond that, they just chose a bunch of songs that sounded more serious in tone. It was such a harebrained idea that the album ends up sounding like a confused mishmash of songs.D12Shady, Modli2, NotSoSlimFranky and 1 other person like this. -

It’s an awful album and that’s mainly the reason people hate it but I do get his point about people pre judging track lists straight away. I remember when Kings never die was announced and people were hating on it immediately because of the song title and Gwen Stefani and it actually weren’t that bad considering some of the other stuff he was releasing around that time. I hope he continues with surprise releasesRipper Roo, Yeez, Modli2 and 1 other person like this. -

I think Revival is dogshit and it's disappointing to hear that Em doesn't understand why. I kinda get it though. He went with a pop sound for Recovery and it was incredibly successful. It continued with s--- like Lighters and The Monster. Revival is worse, but it has the same DNA. -

This is fun but probably a bs. First of all, Trump freestyle went kinda viral but it was mostly ridiculed and turned his fans against him. I think that he had many trump voters in his fanbase and he kinda lost them maybe it was also one of the causes of Revival selling soo low and he had a hard time reaching the numbers he made before.
Plus, he would have admitted by now if that was the case, look how he talks about ENcore songs being leaked so early on and he was too lazy and under the influence to record serious s---, he just felt like having dumbass fun in the studio and put those on the album. He would deifnitely mentioned they changed the songs for some reason etc.accountno24572, D12Shady and Modli2 like this. -

Yeah, there's that... and also though... Recovery was cohesive. For all its flaws... all those songs sounded at home together. Wheras... 'Chloraseptic' vs. 'Need Me' for example?
