    You're right on TikTok music, people taking all the wrong inspiration from Olivia Rodrigo and making the most annoying s--- I've heard in a long time. Not to mention all the sped up versions of songs that are awful.

    There's some modern country that I think is pretty genuine and a step in the right direction for the genre but everytime a song like that releases there's 6 "YOU KNOW I'M FANCY LIKE APPLEBEE'S ON A DATE NIGHT" songs and I hate it lmao

    True, I’ve already seen a bunch of videos on this very topic. People forget that you actually need skill to make good music. Artists like Olivia might make it look easy, but it’s really not. Making good music can be hard work and blatantly copying a good artist when you have no skill of your own won’t automatically make your song good.
    Yeah unfortunately that’s what usually blows up

    Music is consumed in the format of the era that brings the highest earnings to the artists and the vested entities involved with the artists... prior formats encouraged a better quality of music.

    Today... artists hafta fit the format of TikTok to have an impact on popular culture... a very limiting format.

    Or they can make music for the lowest common denominator in the "Culture Wars" (Tom Macdonald, Forgiato Blow, Jason Aldean, Oliver Anthony, ect.to gain the system and get 30,000 Foxnews viewers to buy their album on iTunes and get the #1 spot on Billboard (ya know like the Beatles and Michael Jackson).... that let's the artists to live in a fantasy world where they think they are important and their fans to live in a fantasy world where they think they are right.

    Also makes for s--- music... and encourages more artists to make s--- music so they can convince 30,000 people to spend $.99 so they can pretend that they have a legitimate Billboard #1 too.

    2017 was a pretty bad year for mainstream music for me. Pop music is my favorite genre, and 2017 pop hits were the worst since 2000.

    80s delivered the best music imo, not rap, but overall, from 60s to 80s was the golden era of music in my books

    Like I said there’s definitely gems of the 80’s but, a lot of late 70’s early 80’s was bad. Now early 90’s hip hop and r & b was poppin
