No, I have no doubts. I just could not believe that it was real because of how tight knit Eminems studio team were, and of course we know now if it was one of like 3 people who had been around him in the studio. I just thought there’s was no way someone so close to him could possibly be so dumb.

I knew it was Jeff’s work because obviously we heard it on that live performance, but because I just couldn’t accept someone had access to that stuff and would leak it I could only throw out alternate suggestions as to where it came from

I ended up diving into some of Jeff Bass interviews and he said something quite interesting last year. He said he played about 6 different guitar lines on Beautiful but you can hardly here them, because Mike Strange was the one who mixed it and he claims Mike Strange was never really a mix engineer (I’m guessing he was more of a recording engineer than mixing)

Kinda explains why a lot of Eminem’s music has been mixed like s--- over the last 15 years. He also said the guitars he played on Beautiful sounded like s--- and he didn’t like the sound of the solo at the end because it was too fuzzy.

Another thing he said was that Eminems own mixes never really sounded great either because for some reason Em would always put numerous instrument parts straight down the middle in mono. (Which I have to personally admit is a very strange thing to do). He said when Eminem was actually the one twisting knobs on the board it never sounded too great.

I can’t think of which songs he’s referring too here though. I’m guessing it was some of the later ones from 06, because MMLP and TES sound amazing but all those songs on those albums were either mixed by Dre or Steve King.

If anybody wants to here a great Jeff Bass interview from June 2024, go and listen to this:

    https://open.spotify.com/episode/74XhHYf5cmZMJL5Mg9VN8M?si=VNb732LhS_StEWh1TKuI-Q

It’s an amazing listen, Jeff talks about all the equipment used on many of the songs from SSLP, MMLP, and TES talks about his guitars, who played what parts and much more. Also toward the end he goes into detail about many songs from the first three albums and how they were recorded. I found it a fascinating listen

I’m sure he produced and mixed Lloyd Banks where i’m at and it sounds awful. Just sounds like a terrible drum machine instead of actual drums.

there'sd also no Web Entertaiment logo on Eminem's projects since Shady XV. Especially since MMLP2 that was the last solo album with that logo.

Mike Strange mixed Recovery and it sounds like other songs from that era were mixed by him too.

I think that beat was done by Boi-1da. Regardless, it’s clear Eminem doesn’t have a good ear for how is voice should sound on a song. It’s usually way over-compresses, way too much treble, way over saturated. I wonder if he’s got or been getting tinnitus as the years go by

Regarding the Jeff Bass interview I posted btw, he claims at one point he has about 50 unreleased songs he worked on with Eminem and that Eminem probably has even more

I think there are also some unreleased Eminem/Jeff Bass produced songs from MMLP and TES and those are also the songs I wanna hear and that I mean.
Of course Album 6 era too. But the reason we haven't gotten good unreleased s--- on MMLP and TES is because it's with the Bass Brothers, although No Apologies is with Resto and ELAM with Dre, which I consider to be great. At least No Apologies is on par with the rest of TES. Stimulate is too, which was with Jeff Bass.

At one point Jeff mentions some songs that he had worked on with Eminem had “leaked” over the years. He said there some “great ones” that shouldn’t have leaked and some other that only had one verse. He also said he heard they were leaked by “Eminems brother”.

Him saying that made me think, is he referring to Love You More and We As Americans? We know he isn’t credited on but it would make sense considering they’re probably the two best songs post-TES and that they were done in 2002 before the real Encore sessions started.

But if not these, what else do you think he could be referring to with the “one verse” comment. Maybe Everything? Or something like 50 Ways.

If we talk about current 1 verse s---, Take It is 100 % with him, but it's unfinished and only drums with a bassline.
    Everything is one of them
The Apple is another one, although it's a whole song.
    50 Ways probably is too.
Then there is Hip Hop and Cut Back, which are 1-verse songs. He probably refers to those as well.

I thought of Take It but the interview is from last year, so it hadn’t leaked yet. The last 2 make sense, forgot about those.

Take it is how almost every song from MMLP and TES would have started out. A drum beat from DJ head, a bass line or guitar added from Jeff Bass and then the track built from there.

Im pretty sure he said his Tinnitus really bad during MMLP 2 recording, I'm positive I read that somewhere

    https://eminem.news/paul-pod-interview-part-1.html

Yeah during MMLP 2 part of the summary he mentions it from the Paul Pod

    9. Like Toy Soldiers
    10. Spend Some Time (solo)
    11. Mockingbird

add in a few skits here and there, release in 2004 and for me this should have been the 4th classic album and possibly his greatest. Then should have retired on a high.

I'm currently thinking about putting a 2002/3 album together (follow-up to TES) with ELAMN and s--- from 2001-2003...based on No Apologies, Stimulate, and ELAMN, it also could be like a Deluxe to TES.
This, plus the skits, would make a nice 2003 follow-up album.
And there is so much more good s--- you can add. Let alone what's still in the vault from this era.
Technically, you can add the songs from the 8 Mile soundtrack as well, but they're mostly based on the film, so I left them off.

    My picks
    - Everybody's Looking at me
    - We As Americans
    - Lady (feat Obie Trice)
    - Stimulate
    - My Name Ft Xzibit & Nate Dogg
    - Brand New Dance
    - No Apologies
    - Renegade (Feat Jay-Z)
    - Jimmy Crack Corn (Feat 50 Cent)
    - Bump Heads (With no DJ Tags) (Feat G-Unit)
    - Love You More
    - Smack You
    - Outro (Feat Obie Trice & D-12)

    Bonus songs
    I'm Gone (Feat Obie Trice)
    Love Me (Solo version)

I put it into an order where it reminds you of MMLP and TES to make it a more realistic follow-up.

I'll need to check that out. I know the Korg Triton Jeff used to produce the Eminem Show is still around with all the presents saved but id love to know what drum sounds they used or how they got them. I don't think there is an official Korg Triton VST but just finding out what sounds they used would be interesting.

A lot of hip hop tends to be mixed like that. I notice the tracks with Rick Rubin have a lot of stereo separation and they sound good..

There is also the original version of Superman which had Mariah Carey doing the chorus.

He says in his book that the original version of Business is not the one that ended up on The Eminem Show and it's been said that the beat to Say What You Say was a bit different and had more going on but Dre stripped it back so Eminem's lyrics were the focus. He apparently regretted it later saying he should have left the beat as it was.

He also says in his book from 2008 that he has hundreds of songs stockpiled and some have been made for him and only him to hear and will never be heard outside the studio.

I remember when Straight From The Lab first leaked and at that time on D12 World there was talk about maybe 18 songs being on the CD. Then there was talk about the rest of the songs being clean versions and I forgot how long it was after but there was a clean version of Bully posted online and the cuss words were dubbed and the beat kept playing and this was 2003/2004 there was no software then that could do that. I think what we got is what was on there. I can't see Eminem making a CD with 18 tracks or listening to clean versions he's made but I can see him making a CD of a group of songs he feels strongly about and try them out when he's outside the studio.

He mentions the Triton a lot in the interview. Most of the MMLP and TES sounds came from the Triton. He said at one point that the harpsichord sound on the intro of SFTM, is the same preset as the little ascending harpsichord part of Superman.

As for drums, he says the majority of SSLP was drum sounds from their own arsenal. Him and Mark would go and record loads of kick, hats and snares at different studios and save them for future use.

The drums from MMLP and TES were mostly DJ Head:

I was actually switching from using one drum machine to another at the time. I was using the SP1200 a lot, and beatheads know about that machine, it was very limited, but that d--- sound on it was hard, very hard. It was just an old analog machine, simple as h---. So I was transitioning from that to an MPC3000, but I hadn’t learned how to work it yet. So “Criminal” was the last time I used the SP1200. For the rest of the songs, I would put the drum sounds in the SP1200, but then I would sample out of that into the MPC3000. A lot of the reason that Marshall Mathers knocks so hard is because it was all done on analog. We were recording on tape.

There is actually a Korg Triton VST made by Korg btw. I’ve never experimented with it though.
