Dec 10, 2025 @Disorderly Progress follow me, antichrist og, i’m sorry, ritz, trade off, all those ‘05-‘15 leaks, sans the relapse 2 stuff, are a haunting image of an era that i desperately wish he could recapture. just so raw and emotional and unapologetic. unfortunately i think he’s in a different place now and will probably never be so passionate or coherent again
Dec 10, 2025 You are covering way too long of a time period for this to be true. There is nothing raw about 2012 - 2017 period. He is more passionate in TDOSS than on MMLP2 - Revival
Dec 10, 2025 Relapse is pure passion (though not reflective). Recovery is definitely passionate and emotional. Kamikaze too, almost by definition. I initially thought the first part of TDOSS is passionate too, but on second thought, it is a safe paint-by-numbers going through the motions and butchering Shady, but not in a desired way. Guilty Conscience 2 is one of his worst and most offensive tracks. Offensive in the literal sense of devaluing everything. But all the JID tracks are like he's proving himself again. But Eminem's voice alone in MMLP2 era is so annoying. Unrelated to this, I hate how Eminem almost every verse tries to lead into chorus which amounts to him just saying "'cause..." or "that's why..." and then the chorus. It's incredibly lazy and ruins the flow of the verse. Unnatural way of flowing into the next thing. Especially with MMLP2 voice.
Dec 10, 2025 As I've said before, trying to tell some stans that Slim Shady isn't real can be like trying to tell very small children that Santa Claus isn't real. But I'll take another stab at it: (deep sigh) Slim Shady isn't real. Even as a character, it never had much significance: "The older and more mature I get, Eminem and Slim Shady have just become more of an entertainment name to me than anything. I don't really look at it like I divide up the personalities. I don't really do that anymore." "It was fun at first to build this character up, this whole persona [of Slim Shady], and just do and say whatever I wanted, and then it became something inside of me, like "this is me all the time, this isn't an excuse or something." @7:43 - 10:00: It was only starting with Relapse when he didn't have anything to talk about anymore (besides his drug addiction in Deja Vu) that he dug up this old shtick that he'd already outgrown in his mid 20s, and parodied it beyond recognition. I can appreciate "Relapse Shady" in my own way but I don't take it too seriously. Certainly not to the point that I expect or need to hear any consistency or coherence in the Slim Shady character arc, which beginning with Relapse and to this day with DoSS is more of an artistic crutch than anything else. But GC2 is still interesting because he does a convincing job of "channeling" the interesting artist he used to be, the guy in the 2001 interview above. Especially the layered vocals part seems like what his 27-year-old self might say to the new him. Even the delivery is on point. Where does he accomplish this on Relapse? I'll answer that for you: nowhere.
Dec 10, 2025 You are referencing a 2001 interview, when later in the book The Way I Am he says Shady grew into personalization of everything evil about him. GC2 is a failed repeat attempt at My Darling, where the same idea is entertained. In 2005 he has the same idea in When I'm Gone. And he wasn't even active between Encore to Relapse to even make a point about Shady in that time period. But I have no idea what point are you trying to make. Of course Shady isn't real. And it even makes less sense to argue with that character, when there is no boundary between Eminem and Shady. You seem to be making the same point I am, but I feel attacked. And why would I want Relapse to sound different than it does? Relapse is light years ahead of GC2.
Dec 10, 2025 Which is him at his most lucid and focused (granted if a bit high); at his peak as both an artist and as a person, and for that reason his most authoritative on his music. I don't know exactly what quote you're paraphrasing from that "Way I Am" book or whether it actually contradicts what he says in the interview but I don't care, since it written during a period of sharp mental and spiritual decline. He'd forgotten who he was and what made him great. But then again, I'm talking to someone who thinks Relapse is his prime, LOL. Not sure why you feel that way, but feel free to retaliate. You can beat me with any spatula thatcha want.
Dec 10, 2025 I'm saying Shady makes no sense and the whole song is stupid for that. In that interview with Shady and Eminem, Shady is accusing Eminem of creating Relapse, which makes no sense. Nothing makes sense. That actually was the line I had in mind
