Jun 17, 2015 History has vindicated it, but initially there was a bit of a backlash from staunch Kendrick fans who saw it as a departure from traditional hiphop into radio play. The song had very meaningful lyrics, took on an innovative experimental-funk sound and casual listeners happened to like it too. I just think hiphop tends to have this sort of macho attitude to it. Kind of like how Eminem's LTWYL is a meaningful song, but because Rihanna is on it, it gets extra hate. Apparently, Kendrick's best fans think he's a p---- because he's on Ellen. Gro wup.
Jun 17, 2015 Most people who had a problem with it are just "casual listeners". People who just want bangers and hated TPAB because the album wasn't full of songs like MAAD City. Pretty known already
Jun 17, 2015 I f---ing agree. Hating on an artist for the simple fact he has a big promotion is a stupid hipster idea
Jun 17, 2015 I always liked I. I always had faith it would make more sense on the album than it did as a single. I think he explained himself pretty well in interviews before the albums release. He wanted to put out some positive vibes. Nothing wrong with that.
Jun 17, 2015 hip hop fans are the dumbest/worst type of fans in all music honestly. theyre all divided and can be just hateful for no reason.
Jun 18, 2015 I wouldn't call them his best fans if that was the case. Grow up indeed, I bet they got mad when he featured on Taylor Swift's song as well.
