Section Eighty officially opened to the public on November 23rd, 2014. 10 years to the date. J Cole Nation and Studio Leaks had just closed their doors and forces were combined.

At the time, it was Myself, Hasman, & Koolo, aided by Akaash, Jay, ODB, Paidy, Poly, & Shiva; moderated by M Solo, Mano, Ryan, Swizz, & WPG. If you love this place, give them a hug, because they helped lay the early brick and mortar that’s shaped the site ever since.

Launching wasn’t an easy task — we were essentially building the plane while flying it, using out-of-the box styles & themes and learning about servers, coding, & database entries as they needed to occur. It wasn’t until sometime in late December that a proper v1.0 actually launched. Night theme was still months away. It was a chaotic and lovely time.

For me, like many others, the community goes back much farther than that. I searched as far as my files allowed and discovered that it was this month, back in 2004 that I joined the board at D12 World. Keeping the lights on at SXN80 for 10 years is no small achievement and is likely worth celebrating, but it’s worth acknowledging that some of us have been together for 2X+ that amount of time. Many of y’all have been an active community for >50% of your lives — that is certainly worth celebrating.

We wouldn't be here without you all, so a huge thank you to everyone who's contributed throughout the years -- whether it be a single post, a share, or a nod, it keeps the community alive. Also, a huge shoutout to our current staff for continuing to keep this place moving forward: @Chrollo , @Chuny , @DKC , @JMG , @Michael Myers , @rapmusik , @Sign Language , @Yeez

  • The first time I’ve seen the board band together, in perfect unison, to troll a new member. A thread was created, a question was asked, and it was followed by a dozen pages of everyone simply posting “You’re not allowed to.”. It was a thing of beauty.

...it’s serendipitous that on the eve of Section Eighty’s decennial birthday, Kendrick Lamar, whose title work we're coined after, dropped a surprise album. Shoutout & congrats to Kendrick for continuing to do his thing and keeping our namesake strong.

This might sound corny but i legitimately love this forum and most of the posters here. It’s a small little community that honestly means a lot to me, and i’m sure i’m not the only one who feels that way.

Sorry I'm late. Happy bday S80.. Did we do gifts yet?

If not it's fine cause the party is just getting started. Big things brewing behind the scenes right now and all week we will be celebrating our community and this incredible milestone. We will talk about are most historic moments and set the stage for our next decade. Plenty of surprises coming and we will finish off the week with an event with special appearances and live performances from our top talents. Which is everybody minus a few who will be sacrificed.

Official details drop tomorrow .. hit up @CSW if you wanna be involved. Like this post if you want your name included in what will call the "Toast Post", this post will be put together by all of us and will conclude the festivities. We will select one special poster to submit it

For now lets just let off a few rounds for SXN80 and get a drink. Double f---ing digits and another decade of dominance by yours truly. Lfg

Crazy it’s been as long as it has tbh

I wasn’t around for the earliest days, but I joined SL in 2011. Lots of crazy s--- over the years. But I’m glad we’re still here

3.0 wouldn't have ever come to fruition if it weren't for the work that @Loyalty did. I learned a lot from him during the development phase!
