Jun 30, 2015 can you explain your reasoning? i think gkmc, while its last 20% is pretty regrettable, is a masterpiece. section 80 had great songs, but it also has obvious blemishes and highs that, adhd aside, are nowhere near those on good kid. i'm confused that there are kendrick fans who think this. @BigCountry etc
Jun 30, 2015 section.80 is my personal favorite Kendrick album and I'm 100% biased because of the memories I have surrounding the time it came out. GKMC is probably better overall, but I think the margin is closer than you're implying. That Dying of Thirst --> Real --> Compton ending is something I can't ignore...I'd rather listen to any song on section.80 than those three (yes, even No Make Up). I agree that the highs are higher on GKMC, but section.80 also has some of my top ten kendrick songs (ADHD, f--- Your Ethnicity, Blow My High)...the lesser songs on it are just "songs I like slightly less" rather than "songs I skip completely because they're pieces of s---." Most Kendrick fans I know instantly loved GKMC but it took them a couple listens to come around to section.80. I was the opposite.
Jun 30, 2015 Section80 has my favorite tracks (hiiipower, blow my high) but gkmc has more memories and better overall flow but I can understand why some prefer section.80
Jul 1, 2015 It's not necessarily which album I think is better, it's which style of I prefer. Section.80 is laid back, almost chill Hip Hop whereas GKMC is darker and filled with bangers. They have a different tone. They're different sonically. Section.80 hit me at the right time upon release. I was super into The Roots, Blu, Lupe, etc, so naturally I loved S80. f--- Your Ethnicity, ADHD, Ronald Reagan Era, Blow My High, HiiiPower were gold. Hol' Up is still my favorite Kendrick track. GKMC wasn't a style I was necessarily used to. @BigCountry pretty much summed it up For the record, I do prefer GKMC. It's aged better and my musical tastes have slightly changed. And I don't hate the ending.
