Jul 9, 2015 So this just come on shuffle no doubt it was a solid verse and one of my favourite Kenny features but the question is was it as controversial as it was made to be or was it simply because it was the first time in years a big rapper dissed any other big artists I don't believe it was controversial at all and people massively over reacted for Kendrick stating he basically wants to be the best of the new bunch so to speak but isn't that what every other rapper should be wanting? do you think he should of mentioned anyone else on the record either In the best MC category or any of the new rappers Verse is absolute fire
Jul 9, 2015 Everyone seems to hate on it now. They're like "Oh its so average...Jay Electronica with his boring flow was much better!!!" b---- please, theirs a reason no one talked about the other 2 at the time.
Jul 9, 2015 It was certainly a game-changer I think it made other rappers take Kendrick much more serious
Jul 9, 2015 First things first, Jay Electronica had the best verse. Secondly Kendricks verse isn't controversial he's done this b4 check out his monster freestyle. It only made bigger headlines because at this point Kendrick was a much bigger name
Jul 9, 2015 "funny how one verse can f--- up the game" I don't think it was intended to be a diss really. More of a diss to be left off of the list of rappers he mentioned IMO.
Jul 10, 2015 Almost everyone took it as a diss but I don't think it really was a diss to anyone. It was a little overhyped because it caught everyone off guard and people hyped it up as a huge diss. He just said what everyone who strives to be the best in the rap game was already thinking. He wants to be one of the greatest to ever do it and nothing is wrong with that. I could see if he said "f--- a jermaine cole he's trash im who they came fo" but it wasn't like that. I saw it as Kendrick just promoting friendly competition and challenging all the rappers in his generation to step their bars up. All the names he said just happened to fit in those 4 bars and in the rhyme scheme so any name not mentioned isn't really being dissed either. The "the rest of yall new n----s" implies that he's talking to all of the rappers in his generation. This was a great verse though. It made 2013, an already good year for hip hop even better and more exciting. Control as a whole was a really good song. Even Big Sean held his own. I feel bad for Jay Electronica though. He had a great verse too and it's debatable that he had the best one but the name drop hype overshadowed it.
Jul 10, 2015 Wasn't a diss at all, the people who he mentioned are the ones he feels are his competition. If you were left off, then maybe you should take it as a diss. Can't believe we are still having this conversation 2 years later.
Jul 10, 2015 Jac Elec actually had the better verse in my opinion. Kendrick's verse just caught all the hype obviously because of the name dropping.
Jul 12, 2015 I think he hurt his career long term with this verse... lots of rappers wont even work with him now and p-----s like drake took offense to it and only resoind with subliminals
Jul 12, 2015 One of the best verses I've ever heard, don't care that majority think its overrated I love it
