Jul 17, 2015I know I'm in the minority, but I never loved Deja Vu. Can't stand the monotonous, emotionless Relapse voice. Production is bland. Content is outstanding though.
Going Through Changes is the closest to 2002 Eminem we'll ever hear post-hiatus.

I like the chorus on Deja Vu better, but Going Thru Changes is a better song, and felt more like what I expected. I will give Deja Vu points for opening up about his addictions, but I feel the quality of the song as a whole felt stronger due to the content it was surrounded by on the rest of the album.
However every verse on Going Thru Changes hits harder in comparison, where I really only felt the third verse of Deja Vu. I'm not trying to take anything away from the song, I just felt it wasn't as strong, although I loved it at first. Each song has powerful lyrics
"There's an excuse, you lose Proof so you use/ There's new rules, it's cool if it's helping you to get through/ It's 12 noon, ain't no harm in self inducin' a snooze/ What else is new? f--- it, what would Elvis do in your shoes?"
"I lock myself, in the bed room, bath room, nappin' at noon/ yeah Dad's in a bad mood, he's always snappin' at you/ Marshall, what happened that you can't stop with these pills/ And you've fallen off with your skills, and your own fans are laughin' at you"
He seems more self aware, he puts all of himself out in that song, touches on everything we wondered about.. The drugs, his battle with depression, the decline of his lyrical abilities and whether or not he personally acknowledged it...Mike02, Apocalypse, Koke and 2 others like this. -

are you high? it's nothing we've heard... he talked about Proof's shooting (has only been IMPLIED in certain songs by saying "Proof's death"), he talked about being on the hospital bed and hearing his daughter's voice... the song is pretty much entirely new. GTC is easily one of if not the best song on RecoveryOrdinary Joel, Apocalypse, Koke and 1 other person like this. -

No one said it was, although it is a contender
We only heard glimpses in Deja Vu. Like @rapmusik said, Proof's shooting, hospital bed, etc. We also get a brief apology to Kim. He hasn't really mentioned this subject since either.
I prefer Talkin' 2 Myself's content as well. Eminem's thoughts on rap during his hiatus was something I was really looking forward to hearing about.
Going Through Changes could fit anywhere on The Eminem Show. The entire album was personal and heavy on family/fame/emotions. You can't tell me it doesn't have a Say Goodbye To Hollywood / Sing For The Moment vibe, something he hasn't achieved since. -
