I think its biggest weakness is that it doesn't have these timeless & defining singles that Dre has always been remembered for on his past two albums. When you think The Chronic, you immediately think "Ain't Nuttin' But a G Thang." When you think 2001, your mind goes "Still Dre" or "Forgot About Dre" without a moment's hesitation. Compton is a cinematic and extremely cohesive album—it's a much better listen from start to finish than 2001, probably moreso than The Chronic as well (it's been awhile since I've listened). It might even be his best album when looked at as a whole after we strip our nostalgia goggles. Obviously there are some songs I'll be playing more than others and a few I may start skipping down the road, but I think the lack of a huge hit single takes away from its overall "character" a bit, if that makes sense.
Still, we have to keep in mind that this is Dre's first album not only this decade, but this century. Most people still had dial-up when 2001 dropped, and album rollouts are a lot different in 2015. The whole Pharmacy/Beats 1 announcement and album stream truly made it an event that we could all experience together.Last edited: Aug 8, 2015 -

His verse is pretty good, it's about the best I'd expect from 2015 Eminem. It just kinda takes me out of the album's atmosphere. Animals --> Talking to My Diary would have been a great ending.Mike Tyson, Groovy Tony, Raziel and 3 others like this. -

Dre had no choice, he had to put him on the album. But honestly (I know I do the same thing now) if his verse ended like before the beat dropped I would have liked the song a lot more and it would fit better. But I don't want to complain really because he didn't ruin the song -like talking about piss and s--- or something- and besides him having a good verse, everybody else did a great job. The guests were amazing and Dre himself, I can't believe a guy his age can sound so d--- great on the mic. There are also so many little things that make this album a great listen from start to finish, like you said maybe even greater than his first 2 albums.shadowgun, Translucent, Groovy Tony and 2 others like this. -

the lack of a stand-out song like Still DRE, The Next Episode, etc. is the main weakness I noticed.
Eminem not a weakness on this album imo. great contribution. solid verse.

I was really hoping for one of those. I mean I'll probably consistently listen to Genocide and Gone and s--- but none of those will be those "Oh yeah, that Dre song!" songs. nothing that you hear and automatically think "Dre". When you hear that piano on Still DRE it's like "Ohhh f--- yeah!"Groovy Tony, Hipper2dHoppert and Wreckless like this. -

True, this album is very consistent but it lacks that one standout track. That song that will be played 20 years from now.YaBoyTr, Groovy Tony and rapmusik like this. -
