Oct 23, 2015 that it's the most important of the year? i wouldn't disagree. it's not the best song to me, but it's hard to argue against something that gets chanted at protests.
Oct 23, 2015 Lose Yourself is a great song and a seminal work, but more important than Grindin' in terms of shaping rap that came after it? Definitely not.
Oct 23, 2015 Alright is being used in protests, is socially relevant (especially with the video) and is going to be looked back upon as historically relevant. Lose Yourself is important in terms of...Eminem and his fans. I like both songs (edit: Alright and Good Times). I probably like Good Times more. But if Lifestyle is picked for 2014 there's not really a reason to pick Good Times for 2015, no?
Oct 23, 2015 You could definitely make that case. However I believe that lose yourself truly cemented a talented artist into the most elite category that hasn't been seen since, maybe never will. Know what I mean? It gave rap the highest level rap has ever had maybe ever will have
Oct 23, 2015 What? I'm not commenting on the Eminem s--- at all m8. I'm saying if the criteria is what's most important to rap as a genre, good times is more new ground being broken and the lines b/w genres being increasingly obscured. It serves a very different purpose vs lifestyle
Oct 24, 2015 Good Times is not as impactful as Lifestyle. I like Good Times a h--- of a lot more than Lifestyle but it did not take off quite like that song. If there's any song this year that will be considered the most important rap song of 2015, it'll either be something by Drake or Kendrick.
Oct 24, 2015 I wasn't even saying impactful, just, like important. For the new ground in breaks (at least imo)
Oct 24, 2015 Basically, "Good Times" is not gonna be remembered as well in the cultural lexicon this year as maybe "Hotling Bling," "Know Yourself," or "Alright."
Oct 24, 2015 Don't agree with every choice on this list, but Grindin' was probably a h--- of a lot more popular in 2002 than Good Times now. Also gotta take into consideration how big The Neptunes were back then too.
Oct 24, 2015 Grindin was everywhere. I was in middle school and I remember people banging the beat on their desks with pencils all the time.
