I think there is a case to be made for Eminem being the best rapper alive during the SSLP/MMLP era, but not the TES-era. The Fix is a masterpiece; The Eminem Show is a disjointed jumble of classic songs and poorly-aged melodrama. For those wondering about Ishmael Butler, he's Butterfly from Digable Planets and is the rapper in Shabazz Palaces and is really the only truly great rapper to ever come out of Seattle imo (even though he repped NY with DP). If you like Tribe/De La/etc you will like Digable Planets. Shabazz is a less accessible.

Oct 27, 2015 think you guys might be underestimating the effect shabazz had over the way indie artists plotted out their releases. also, Black Up is head and shoulders ahead of Section 80 and especially Take Care, to me. truth be told, the best rapper in 2011 was blu. but he was rapping into the abyss.
