Oct 26, 2015 yeah The Eminem Show is not one of the most acclaimed/beloved rap albums in history, dear. (even if it were, it would still be wrong, but it isn't, so here we are.)
Oct 26, 2015 The album is pretty clearly the Bay's sound. YG is probably less than half of the reason people like it in the first place, I would hope. I'm not arguing about its importance. I just don't think it's good. Rather listen to Fancy tbh.
Oct 26, 2015 I don't even like Eminem and I still think he deserves a spot as best rapper in the world at some point
Oct 26, 2015 Bro tbf if me 1 year ago was here i'd probably be arguing about Eminem being the only good artist and how hip-hop nowadays sucks, only rapping about money p---- and weed smh Opened my eyes a little at a time, oh how blessed i was every time i found a rapper and gave him/her a shot
Oct 26, 2015 mustard is obviously a descendent of oakland, but that sound has existed primarily in compton and primarily as compton's for nearly a decade now. My Krazy Life is the movement's defining moment. YG manages to make an album where gangbanging is made to seem ordinary without being made to seem dull. "Meet the Flockers" was the year's best narrative song.
Oct 26, 2015 Kendrick released 1 project this year the majority jizzed over, Future released 3 that the majority has jizzed over with another 1/2 on the way still. The amount of jizzing isnt really relevant in this discussion. This is future's year way more than Kendricks. Also, the case could be made that if TPAB is REALLY as good as the initial jizzing made it seem, where is its lasting appeal?
Oct 26, 2015 dont you sigh, take a nap. the raps are what's cited? i understand why you're saying that in terms of how he broadened what a mainstream rapper could look like in 2004, and even what he rapped about... i guess it rly gets down the definition of "best rapper" -- i'm making a distinction between optics and technical proficiency and im guessing you arent. i'm not cosigning these, mind u, but citing as examples of other writers calling into question west's abilities on the album http://www.avclub.com/article/worst-lyrical-rhymes-in-popular-music-58647 then there's the 2004 review from the Richmond Times-Dispatch describing him as not "the most proficient rapper" Rolling Stone: "West isn't quite MC enough to hold down the entire disc... his ace in the hole is his signature cozy sound" in a 2005 profile, npr claims he's a better producer than a rapper, and on and on paul, pls, stay with me, i know you're sleepy. im not comparing dre to ye. im critiquing your rationale for ye > doom but not dre. two separate things. obviously dre has never been a strong rapper, although he too has been underrated imo at moments. i see youve conceded my point tho! hooray :D lol @Narsh get out of this thread, u squid
