It’s no secret that in spite of all of its celebrity endorsement, Jay Z’s streaming service Tidal has been struggling to compete with other streaming services such asSpotify. One of the tricks up Tidal’s sleeve that both Apple Music and Spotify lack was revealed yesterday, however, with the announcement that the service will be expanding its content offerings to include original scripted and unscripted programming similar to Netflix and other video-streaming services.

The news was announced yesterday via Variety, with Brooklyn-based drama Money & Violence and a comedy series profiling new comedians called No Small Talkamong those to be added to the service. The first season of Money & Violence was originally produced independently for YouTube, but it’s available on Tidal right now with the second season to launch exclusively for one week on Tidal in January. No Small Talk is also now available on the service for subscribers.

Tim Riley, Tidal’s senior VP of label and artist relations, said that it’s part of their ongoing efforts to increase the value of the service to subscribers. He says of the strategy, “If someone is paying for Tidal, we want that to be the best experience they can have.” The service is slated to receive more series in the future, including a number of sports-related shows as well as a profile series on emerging artists.

They should all start with L to keep the theme going.

h---, maybe they should make their own original version of The L Word.
