Nov 18, 2015 In this video by TIME, Vince the king explains why he thinks the 90s is an overrated time. Def got a Kanye kind of speech in this video. He speaks some truth here too. Thoughts?

Nov 18, 2015 I don't know if they're overrated or not but I certainly prefer that style. I don't like majority of the new school rappers or the styles. The early 2000s was a f---in dope period as well tbh.
Nov 18, 2015 I respect 90s rappers and what they helped contribute to hip hop. But the new generation isn't always going to look up to them we have our own influences from when we grew up, time changes and that shouldn't be a problem.
Nov 18, 2015 It's kinda funny to me that so many people here who are only five-ish years younger than me (aka just a bit younger than Vince) aren't that well rounded in 90s or even early 2000s rap. It's making me realize that a bunch of yall weren't really old enough to be "into" rap pre-808s and pre-dat piff...it's changed a lot since then, both in terms of sound and frequency/method of distribution. We get hammered with so many free, easy-access albums weekly (if not daily), it's hard to keep up with everything while trying to educate yourself on older artists/albums. Though I was probably an insufferable music fan at the time I'm glad I had my backpacker phase where I scoured limewire for anything that said "feat. Mos Def" when I was 15 or 16. Led to me looking into/discovering a lot of older stuff.
Nov 18, 2015 I had a backpacker phase when I was 17 but before that I got my hip-hop fix through my brother who used to download songs through Bearshare.
