Couple things,
1. MMLP2 is NOT a masterpiece, and i liked it
2. He doesn't need to make every song a challenge to the listener with his flow. We don't care if he looks at his rhymes as "Puzzles", we want him to focus on the impact of what he's saying
3. He has fallen off, but he could make a musical comeback.Music, twisty, Translucent and 4 others like this. -

Did you seriously just say...that the MMLP2 is... a masterpiece?

Definitely disagree with that. It's a decent album, but far far far from a masterpiece.
Lyrically, he's gotten better.
His execution however, hasn't.
Shady XV and Southpaw some decent contributions from Em but for the most part, those projects are trash.Him Shadow, Thy, asvdawg and 1 other person like this. -

I wouldn't say he's "fallen off" completely, but to say he's as good or better than he was during his early years just doesn't make sense to me. Sure his rhyming ability may be as good or better than it's ever been, but everything else ( i.e., flow, delivery, ability to put together a cohesive project) falls short imo. We see glimpses of greatness all the time, but they are mostly just that, glimpses.
He's much less consistent in the modern era. MMLP 2 was a solid project but all over the place, Shady XV had a few gems, and Southpaw was eh. From SSLP to 8 Mile he was consistently great and for the most part he could do no wrong; a perfect balance of skill, attitude, delivery, and flow. Everything after has been a mix of great, average and plain bad. More recently I think he's struggled to deliver cohesive projects that are sonically appealing. He's simply lost touch with what sounds good, and focused his energy on what he thinks is impressive. No doubt the dude can still rhyme his a--- off, but when he tries accents, yelling, rhyming every syllable, choppy flows, and speed rap it's extremely hit or miss.
I think there's no doubt the ability is still there, but he's lost the drive/hunger, focus and sense of direction which fueled him during his first three albums. He seems to just be going through the motions now and even admits it on songs like Bad Guy and Guts Over Fear. I don't give a s--- about sales and think people use that as a crutch on both sides of the argument. I think as time has passed he tried to up sales/remain relevant by using the formulaic We Made You, cookie cutter singles like Not Afraid, LTWYL, Survival and The Monster (cool video though), and mixing it up (3am, Rap God and Berzerk). Having said all that, more recently I thought MMLP 2 had a lot of solid songs and really enjoyed Medicine Man and Fine Line. When we get more information/promotion on the next album, as always, I think both people who love and hate him will still look for it.
Haha sorry for the novella...Last edited: Jan 2, 2016 -

Whoever thinks he has fallen off doesn't know a thing about hip hop..the guy has in a way gotten better..it's crazy to say he isn't as good as he was...Dec 20, 2025(This ad goes away when signing up)
