Jan 8, 2016 At his peak, Eminem was rapping at a level Drake will never be able to match. However, you're comparing discographies not peaks.
Jan 8, 2016 Eminem is still a great rapper when it comes to technicality imo but that still doesn't translate to song making ability.
Jan 9, 2016 In terms of consistency it's Drake because Eminem has proceeded to make a lot of bad music post 2003. With that being said, Drake hasn't put out a project any where near as good as Em's first 3 albums. Essentially Em's highs are much higher than Drake's but his lows are a lot lower.
Jan 9, 2016 eminem.....his best work is by far better than drake's.........and eminem's last 3 to 4 albums isn't enough to put him below drake discography wise
Jan 9, 2016 It has its moments where it works like on Rap God for instance but he uses it as a crutch. In his head he thinks if he just raps fast and rhymes a bunch of words it's good when that's not the case at all.
Jan 9, 2016 As I got older Eminem became less cool to me, not relatable at all either. The s--- he talks about is funny/cool when you're still young and immature but I really can't even stand his older music now. I don't listen to TES or the previous two LP's. I'll take Drake over Em anyday now. Em just can't make that great of songs, especially in this age and time.
Jan 9, 2016 Eminem having 3 classics is also another weird thing. Let's talk about it by putting all bias aside... What makes an album a classic? People usually agree that it is determined by different criteria such as impact, quality, influence, etc. -Quality: Eminem didn't have a single critically acclaimed album. Now I know what you gonna say..."Eminem is the highest selling rapper of all time" but let's not forget that it's almost a consensus that albums sales don't mean s--- anymore. Most albums don't sell because they're good but because they're accessible. I also know that this kind of acclaim I'm talking about doesn't mean s--- but let's be honest, critics have always been important when it comes to call an album a classic, and all these "best albums of all time" lists that drop 10 years later usually remind you what albums were praised as good albums when they came out. Magazines & publications usually make sure we still talk about the "good" albums and since Em's first albums ain't making these lists nomore, I'm afraid his fans will be the only guys who gonna be talking about them 10 years from now. -Influence: Where is this major Eminem influence his fans are talking about? Yeah he introduced hip hop to a lot of wanabes, but so did Tupac. Wayne influenced way more rappers and some of you don't even want to praise some of his albums as classics... the only clowns eminem has influenced are hopsin, earl, tyler and a few more cats (you can say cole, kendrick, and whoever you want, but we don't hear that influence...), but none of them are poppin so you could say that nobody really wants to rap like Eminem and he wasn't the first complex rhymer in hip hop history. -Impact: All I see is a commercial impact...
Jan 9, 2016 I edited my post before you quoted me. and like I said, Em has probably influenced kendrick but its a minor influence, u can't really hear it in kendrick's music, When gkmc came out people were talking about an Em influence... they were talking about em for the voice when it was influenced by E-40 & Andre, they were talking about Em for the flow when kendrick was rapping like that before and dude was always giving credits to other rappers for this. Kdot praising Em as an influence = politics, he only started to praise Em as an influence when he joined Aftermath. Just like Cole only started to praise Em as an influence when he tourred with him. Most Em fans usually say that you can't hear Em's influence in today music "because his style is too complicated to replicate, it proves that Em is too good"... well, it only proves that nobody wants to make this kind of music. What matters the most is having a major influence and you don't hear anybody trying to bite Eminem like Drake & cole did with kanye, or logic did with cole/kendrick/drake, or like kendrick did with Andre. The only guys trying to bite Em will never make it in the mainstream.
Jan 9, 2016 It's like this with all older music though. I don't listen to Illmatic on a weekly or even monthly basis. It maybe gets one spin from me a year. It's still a great album though.
Jan 9, 2016 Yeah but when I look back on Illmatic I can still recognize the greatness in it. When I look back at older Em I just don't see that. He did have some classic tracks in those first 3 albums but idk, I was a huuuuuuge stan when I was younger but I can't stand to listen to his older s--- now other than a select few songs.
Jan 9, 2016 Also Illmatic is still influencing some albums and a lot of rappers are trying to get an oldschool-east cost vibe in their production (Joey badass for example) so an album like Illmatic (that dropped 5 years before Em's major debut) is gonna age a lot better than Em's first albums... nobody is trying to get an oldschool vibe a la SSLP/MMLP and it makes the production on his albums sound dated.
