Mar 29, 2016 "Thug isn’t “post-language,” he just plays his voice like a saxophone. His approach is more free jazz than freestyle: improvisation for the sake of launching away from convention, more about harmonic progression and overall arc than outright lyrical cleverness or stamina." GOAT explanation.
Mar 29, 2016 My next girl friend is gonna have to appreciate thug like this Meaghan lady. ain't no other way it will work out
Mar 29, 2016 This is a really great write-up. I agree with her in that, other than Drippin, none of these tracks felt like any real progression from Thug. They were basically on par with most tracks from the first two Slime Seasons, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I think I'm just too eagerly anticipating HY!£UN35, where I'm hoping his talent will get distilled into a second cohesive album (Barter 6 is still his best release to me for this reason).
Mar 29, 2016 I think the problem with everyone and their f---in mother asking for Thug to make a "Cohesive" album is that that's limiting. For this n----- to showcase his diversity of potential while also satisfying the cohesiveness requirement, he'd have to release 6 albums.
Mar 29, 2016 I'm pretty sure nothing (other than maybe Lyor) is stopping him from doing that tomorrow if he wanted to. I (and most people) just think cohesive projects sound the best. Look at the backlash TLOP got from being so all over the place. Barter 6 may not have as many great songs as SS1, but the fact that most songs have a similar sonic aesthetic makes it sounds nicer and more digestible in one sitting. I'd prefer 6 spread out albums with their own sounds from Thug than a bunch of disjointed tracks.
Mar 29, 2016 i mean, let's not get carried away--asking an album to be "cohesive" is not restricting the artist's creativity, per se. you can make a White Album if you want, but it better be a White Album.
Mar 29, 2016 Yeah I guess I just disagree. I would absolutely love a Hi-Tunes that has songs that transition from edm to folk to trap to basic 16 bars s--- and all the way around again. It just makes sense from so many different viewpoints - 1) No one else can do that the way he can, 2) Different 'styles' attract different crowds, maximizing potential new fans, 3) It is, in itself, an interesting idea to make a single piece of art that eclectic. White album like @WPG said The only people who won't like my conception of what hi-tunes could be are perhaps closed-minded Music Writers, etc (fake a--- p---- a--- industry anyway) and the people who follow them. lol. no offense to any1 Maybe what I'm really saying is that this traditional view of the "Album" don't even mesh with Thug like that
Mar 29, 2016 Meshed pretty well on barter 6 IMO. I see what you're saying and that would be dope of course but it is definitely more of a risk, like WPG mentioned it has to be a White Album. If he can do it he should do it but another SS wouldn't cut it.
